Garmin! Why has the new update 15.76 messed up so many watches

So many people are posting about problems with the new update 15 76. Why has this been rolled out without proper testing?

It seems the only way to fix these problems is to do a reset and restore from a backup.

For many this will be a daunting business as it takes quite a long time and then causes problems for people trying to re pair with their devices and restore from a backup.

Perhaps you could be a little more specific? I haven't noticed any problems with it yet.

  • no issues with mine either.

Reality is that generally these sites and others like them tend to focus on issues rather than what a brand has go right.

'But considering there aren't any more complaints than usual for any update I wouldn't say this official version is any worse than any other version".

No massive battery drain issue they had to fix.

The ski run issue which probably affected fewer people than a battery issue was resolved very quickly.

  • I’ve had loads of problems:

All naps recorded have been false,

While on a rower heart rate jumped to 186 (usually circa 140), sat there even when I stopped. Took watch off and cleaned sensor then carried on. Did the same then suddenly dropped to circa 60 for rest of workout. This in turn set my max heart rate to 185 (Auto detect enabled) so changed it back to previous 175. This in turn ticked every day as a preferred long workout day in suggestions and every day for the following week to a rest day!

Having already done a reset and restore from back up I finally bit the bullet and did a complete reset starting from scratch. No fun editing all my activities again believe me!

Set heart rate at 170. Followed a suggested Tempo run this morning (with chest strap) Got my 5k auto lap notification for 28 minutes about 40 minutes into my run! On completion of my run my default max heart rate adjusted to 184 again, my Run Max Sports heart rate to the same, My Cycling Max heart rate to 174 and my Swim Max stayed at 170!

I don’t use the Sports Heart rates and have deleted them countless times but they keep re appearing with different Max’s I thought they were optional and edited manually?? How can I have different max heart rates??

Also my fitness age has gone from 48 to 49.5 but there has been no change in the metrics it uses.

For context I’m 53. I’ve never got my heart rate higher than 160 even when trying my hardest absolutely hanging out!

From my point of view this update has totally played havoc with my Pro 51mm sapphire!!

  • It does look like lots of people are having issues with the auto nap?  I saw many different people talking about it, and how it triggers when watching tv, or working at a desk etc.  Then, it impacts the metrics etc..  :-(   So... once again, I am afraid to do an update.  (still on 13.22), lol.

  • Yeah, hearing this makes me want to just stick with v13.22 that I have now.  It also makes me mad that it has to be this way.  I would love some of the new features.. but, I feel like it just is an exchange for things that are working, to things that may not after an update.

Then, I go back to thinking "do I even need this at all, LOL".  I walk past my luxury watch case everyday (missing them) and look back to when I just wore a G-shock for my workouts.   But, now here I am.

  • Ahh the G-Shock… those were the days! Stick with 13.22. Wish I could roll back….

  • Ahh the G-Shock… those were the days!

    It's still a thing - youtu.be/vOUKBRquC-k

  • Yeah FWIW my watch is working beautifully.

  • How are you finding the nap feature?  It does not make sense that some have no issues,, and some it triggers a nap while watching tv and working at a desk?  What has been your experience with the new nap feature?

  • It does not make sense that some have no issues,

Why? That is the nature of things in general. Not everyone has problems. I'm in the group who do not have or very rarely have problems. Sleep tracking has always worked well for me and I'm not having any issues with nap tracking. I purposely laid down for a nap on Sunday and that recorded without issue. I'm a very sedentary person in general outside of activity and do not have any naps wrongly recorded.

Why do others have issues and others not? That's the $64 000 question.
