Epix 2 vs Epix Pro: why were "minute/second markers" removed from Epix Pro bezel?

I'm currently choosing between Epix 2 Sapphire vs. Epix Pro Sapphire. With discounts, there is only cca. 150 EUR difference between the two here in Europe, so this is not too bad.

I'm leaning towards Epix Pro because I really like some of the Pro watchfaces in particular that aren't available on non-pro. Also because of the flashlight and Elevate 5 sensor.

On the other hand, I kind of prefer the look of the bezel on non-Pro, wihch has the seconds/minute markers on the bezel itself. In my opinion, it kind of makes it look more like a real analogue watch! So it makes me wonder why did they spoil the Epix Pro look by removing these minute/seconds markers, replacing them with a circle line around the bezel?? Is there a particular reason, or is it just "aesthetics"?

  • Yeah. The removal of Minute/Seconds bezel as well as the red knob make the pro look less pro

  • I have it exactly the other way around. Minutes/seconds markers on non pro models (and all older Epis/Fenix models) are useless for me because:

    • they are not illuminated, therefore useless during low light conditions or night
    • digital watch faces are not using them at all
    • almost all analog watches are displaying their own minute/second labels

Minutes/seconds markers are just wasting the space, that can be used for display IMHO.

  • as a side note that having had loads of mechanicals - I have never seen a watch that illuminates all the the minute/second markers and other markers like that on the bezel unless its just 5min/s or 15min/s markers - For the way the epix shows there are just way too many. At the most the 5min indicators would iluminate or more likely the 15 mins indicators.

I have a seiko for example that has 3 rings of marker data - so can use bezel to provide speed and other features - looks good, used some of them on the odd occasion but often a struggle on remembering how to use, however only the 15m/s markers were radiated to illuminate (and of course the hands) - so at night would have to estimate time based on hands position against illuminated markers - just like watches with only those markers.
