Snowboard/Ski activity auto-run bug after updating to 15.74

Yesterday's update (version 15.74) broke the snowboard activity on my Epix Pro, and possibly skiing too.
I live in the Alps and snowboard frequently, there was a definite change in behavior from the previous version to this.
Auto run does not pick up the start of a run anymore, today was the first time running with the new software version and the activity missed my first two runs (zero distance, zero elevation, zero everything), then I realized and managed to somehow make it work by pausing it and resuming it manually at the beginning of each subsequent run (at the top of the lift).
Later, when viewing the activity on the Connect app, the new Run/Lift highlights on the map are completely bogus, some (portions of) runs are highlighted as lifts and viceversa.

There is a changelog entry that mentions changes to the activity ("Added tracking of splits for Ski."), but it may have introduced a bug instead. Have done a soft reset and will try again in the next days.

  • Thank you for taking the time to provide a detailed experience of the issue after updating to v15.74. After your further testing if it continues, please update this thread.

If you haven't already, before your next runs down the mountain, please perform a soft reset by holding down your top left button until your watch shuts off then let go of the button.

  • Hi Chris - same issue here on Epix gen 2 snowboarding doesn’t seem to work either.

  • Yep also having this issue, went skiing today with epix gen 2 and it recorded nothing:(

  • I've tried again today, after a soft reset, and it worked this time. All runs and lifts are spot on in the new map overlay.

I've noticed that the distance now includes the distance travelled on the lifts, but it would be nice to have the old distance too (runs only) as a stat, while it's only available in the runs tab. Also, the total descent stat and the total descent in the runs tab don't match for some reason.

  • I was logging in to say the same thing.  Worked great after the soft reset.

  • My issue is pretty different but somehow related to some other comments in the thread. In my case, Epix tracked ascents/descents and in garmin connect they look good but during the activity weird things happen. Here is a summary:

    1) DURING the ski activity, lifts are considered laps. Hence you don't know how many slopes you did. This is automatically fixed by the watch when it saves the activity but looking at the summary of the activity (from the history), the number of slopes is doubled

    2) Lap alerts are completely random now and sometimes they are not triggered at all. With previous version of the ski app, laps where consistently marked at the same point during the lift

    3) It's impossible to understand what the watch is calculating (speed, altitude) from the activity screens because you cannot determine when the watch started counting a lap.

Due to the above points, it's very hard to track skiing activity during the day.
I hope Garmin will fix this issue before the quarterly update as winter will be probably over :D

  • Same FW.

Rode all day today and recorded a total of 6 minutes of activity in the snowboard app. Started with a small down hill slide to the lower lift. Once on the lift, it paused halfway up the lift and recorded the uphill as still part of the "run". It did not resume at all after that, which I didn't realize until the end of the day

  • Same issue here. The auto run feature doesn’t work anymore. Since it was the first sky day of the season, I don’t know which update broke it. Now I’m on 15.74

first it tracked nothing at all, after a reboot it startet ok but after two runs it broke again. Then I switched off the auto run feature and it tracked everything but also the rides up

  • Same with me but I have a fenix 7. Skiing autorun recorded nothing. Solid 9 hours and only 5 runs recorded.
