Epix Pro 51, how long will the software be supported?

I would like to buy an Epix watch, but it is more expensive than the Ultra 1/2.
how long will the watch be supported, 2 years?
after that to the trash?
Ultra seems more tempting than Epix for this reason.
I owned a Fenix 6 pro (good watch), then I bought a Venu 2 plus (I don't know, it didn't seem very good to me), now I use Instinct which covers all my needs, but I want a more beautiful/elegant watch and I'm in doubt , is it worth buying an Epix so that it no longer receives the necessary support?
Ultra, for example, has a new and good processor, which will support all the programs and updates from 5-7 years ago, but every year garmin tries to do something new that kills the previous versions...
that's all ...
there could be a lot of grammatical mistakes of meaning, I'm writing in translit :)
Have a nice day everyone

  • Garmin has always supported their flagship product (the Fenix series) longer than any other wearable. And since the luxury line, MARQ, is based off the Fenix/Epix and is promised 5 years of parts serviceability I would expect that to continue. The Fenix 6 line was released on August 29, 2019 and the latest firmware for that, FW 26.00, was released in June 2023 and there is a beta in the works. The Fenix 5 Plus was released on July 1, 2018 and received a firmware update (FW19.30) in July 2023. So that's 5 years of updates (so far) for the Fenix 5 Plus and 4 years (so far) for the Fenix 6. To round out the comparison, the last update for the Fenix 3 was in mid-2020, about 5.5 years after its introduction.

Of course, in the past the updates have tended to slow down as the device ages but the new quarterly update strategy hasn't been around long enough to see how it will be employed on older devices. My guess is that updates will tend to slow down after the three year mark, or certainly after the four year mark.

So, to sum up, I would expect that you would see firmware updates for the Epix (Gen 2) until early 2027 and for the Epix Pro until late 2028.

  • Garmin has always supported their

watches for extended periods of time. This includes their flagship range the Marq series right down to those at the base of the flagpole. As noted, as time progresses there will be fewer new features with more focus on bug fixes. Updates will become less frequent too.

  • You do know that what you watch does today it will continue to do that until it dies - its not like garmin physical prevents them from connecting and updating to connect app etc - there are guys still using really old watches.

But yes at some point its likey that new feature updates will fissle out, and so will bug fixes. And yes Garmin doesn't always push down its new features to all watch models, and yes Apple is much better at that, but then it only effectively has 3 models to deal with and even across those 3 models not all features do roll down to all models and or older models.
