Maps showing old trails

I recently switched from Apple Watch to Garmin and loving my new Epix 2.

I have been playing with the Track Me activity when walking around the neighborhood and now my Maps show all of my prior walks with red trails. I have tried disabling Trail Log in the watch and the Explorer app but to no avail. Please help!

Thanks!

Happened to me too. You need to restart the watch several times. Each restart one of the old trails disappears.

  • instead of using track me - why not just use the walking activitiy as it will then apply to all your metrics. Track me is excluded from your metrics (i more use that when doing a tour or something like that so I can match photos to locations etc to create a type of picture story book - using lap button to mark spots / or save location).

  • I restarted the watch and trail went away. Thanks!

Could you please explain the difference between using Track Me vs Walk vs Navigation vs Expedition? Which would you use for a walk around the neighborhood vs hike along a planned trail (usually with Alltrails)? Which would you use for a multiday hike? Thanks!

  • Track me - use that for tours etc where you aren't doing anything that is going to do any benefit to your health/fitness i.e. take a bus tour, boat tour, walking tour around castle grounds etcgoing slowly, lots of stop and starting etc.

Walk - for any general walking you do - will get a load and add to your fitness.

Navigation - don't use this at all by itself - always use this as part of another activity i.e. walk then open nav in walk. Suppose only time would want to use this is something similar to track me i.e. don't want any fitness benefit from it.

Expendition - if can't get regular charging and need the level of battery life that this option provides - otherwise would just use hike.

Walking for just general around neighbourhood / walking paths etc. Hike for when out on uneven terrain, using trail etc.

  • Hi,

  • Multi day hike - Hike. And would save the activity after each day - if use resume later/ expedition then sleep tracking etc can't work as the activity is technically still going - its just suspended in the background. If you want a single track use a tool to join the activity together.

Expedition - only if need the battery life as will not be able to charge.

  • Thank you for explanation. How do you open/use Nav within Walk?

  • you can open nav at any time, but I personally prefer to open it just before you trigger your walk.

So press start button to get actiivty options - select walk. you are now in the select screen - it sholud show alk and should be showing gps status - which you should wait until its green and have a fix (do this whether going to use navigation or not - a) so better tracks, b) so that when open navigation it has your start point locked).

press menu/up button (left middle) - second option should be navigate - select it. You can now choose from courses (these you have already loaded to watch whether via komoot/connect/explorer etc), locations (POI/waypoints you have saved whether by watch/komoot/exploerer), Back to start ( if are in the middle of an activity - this will bring you back to your start point - can retrace steps or can reroute back to start), past activity (can select from watch history), POI (these are based on what is loaded on the maps), sight n go (basically a bearing line to an object you can see - if want bearing line to an object you can see then need to use reference point), Coordinates (manually load into watch), select on map (will open to map screen - long press on the point you want).

Once you have selected opton it will take you back to selected walk screen - press start button to start activity.

Note that if doing this during an activity - just long press the menu button (left middle), scroll down and select navigation - then have the same options as previously stated.
