Epix (Gen 2) Pro 51mm, iPhone 15 Pro Max, Bluetooth connection extremely unreliable

My setup:

  • Epix (Gen 2) Pro 51mm, 14.68 firmware
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max, iOS 17.1.1
  • Latest Garmin Connect mobile app and ConnectIQ app as of today

I find Bluetooth connection between the Epix and iPhone is very unreliable. Disconnects every few seconds, and hard to reconnect. Tried all the standard things, including restarting iPhone, restarting Epix, re-pairing Epix to the iPhone. Tapping on the "EPIX PRO - 51mm" entry in iPhone's Settings -> Bluetooth results in failure to connect or disconnect after a few seconds, most of the time. Sometimes it holds up connection long enough to do activity sync, etc.

I'm up to date on all Epix firmware/maps/data fields by syncing using Garmin Express.

Very frustrated with this. My Garmin Fenix 6X does not have this issue connected with the same phone. Any suggestions?
