What's The Point of 51mm Option When The Screen Size Is The Same Even With Venu 3 ?

I really want to be convinced with a logical explanation about this;

Epix Pro (Gen 2) 51 MM: PHYSICAL SIZE: 51 mm - DISPLAY SIZE: 1.4” (35.56 mm) diameter

https://ibb.co/GWg1D04

Venu 3 45 MM: PHYSICAL SIZE: 45 mm - DISPLAY SIZE: 1.4" (35.40 mm) diameter

So, what's the point of making 51mm option if i could get the same usable screen size with Venu 3 ? Garmin shrinked the bezel but didn't fill the gaps with the screen itself, just closed the gap with unoperational/unusable black lines again.

  • The 51mm with amoled screen managed to fit a enduro 2 battery, wich really boosts the time between charge, same as fenix 7 pro with MIP display

  • You can see the many differences between those two watches here: Comparo

But perhaps the most significant justification for the difference in size is the larger battery in the Epix:

If you like the form factor of the Venu, then buy that - buyer's choice.

    HTH

  • Forerunner 965 has the same size screen aswell, but alot less battery length

  • So guys, all your explanation is the battery life right ? Other than that, does it's screen have any advantages comparing to Venu 3 ?

I'm not talking about additional features of Epix/Fenix line such as map, advanced training metrics. Please don't send me comparison tables because i'm aware of them, as having been used more than 10 different Garmin watches/wristbands since 2017. I purely compare the screens.

So you find those unusable huge black borders beautiful ?

  • As far as i know the 1.4 amoled screen is the same on all, not 100% sure tho. I had a forerunner 965 with 1.4 amoled and now got a epix pro gen 2 51mm, and i cant see any difference on the screens.

  • Yup. Batt.

Same goes with biggest fenix7  and Enduro 2. Same diameter, Enduro is thicker and heavier just because of bigger battery and longer life.

  • Thank you all. Then the screen is exactly the same with Venu 3. I like the muscular and rugged  design of Epix but the huge black borders around the screen demotivates me to buy it.

  • EPIX physical size is (sadly) far bigger than it needs to be (for a given screen diameter, meaning lots of wasted dead bezel space) due to Garmin's dream of making Solar relevant on watches. True, Solar is not an option for EPIX. BUT in order to maintain "cosmetic parity" between Fenix and EPIX, the screen / case sizes are kept the same.

As to Garmin's solar-on-watch dream: please reconsider! It's just not worth it!! We hate the wasted screen area! Also the Epix Pro 51mm proves that removing the solar layer you could actually fit the thicker Enduro battery into normal 51mm F7, meaning Solar is actually REDUCING the battery life that you could have had on all normal F7s WITHOUT a stupidly large black bezel.

Or at the very least Garmin PLEASE don't make EPIX (or even F7 non-solar) owners suffer with wasted dead bezel space as we now do.

  • Completely disagree with this. In the early Fenix days the bezel was massive, that is not the case anymore. If you want no bezels-enjoy the Venu etc. the whole point of Fenix/Epix series is looking classy and rugged.l, outdoorsy. Moreover, that’s why there are three sizes to suit anybody’s needs. Garmin has made a very good watch lines separation, please don’t try to make Venu out of Fenix/Epix and visa versa.

  • I like the Titanium outer bezel. But I detest the 5mm dead black ring (exactly the size of a F7 solar ring) in between the Ti bezel and the actual screen. Just expand screen all the way out to the Ti outer bezel!
