Connecting to Pixel 8 Pro

Anyone have success with connecting to a Pixel 8 yet? I've gone through all of the troubleshooting steps, disabled adaptive connections and still can't get the watch to connect via Garmin Connect.

For what it's worth, I can still connect it to my S23 Ultra... which I've turned off when attempting to pair with the Pixel 8.

Things I've tried:

  • Force closing Garmin Connect app and clear storage
  • Rebooting phone
  • Rebooting watch
  • Turned off adaptive connections in settings on Pixel 8
  • Toggled Bluetooth on Pixel 8
  • Went into Bluetooth settings in Pixel 8 to confirm it wasn't a previously connected device

I'd think maybe it's an Android 14 thing, but my S23 Ultra has a beta version of Android 14 and it connects just fine.

Any other suggestions are appreciated!

  • Oh... and all permissions are enabled for the Garmin Connect app.

  • Seeing this message made me go check to see if mine worked so I could report back as I've just got the Pixel 8 (non-pro).

My Epix 2 wasn't paired to my phone so wasn't showing in Garmin Connect. I went through the setup process again and the first time it failed but the second time it went through (even though the watch was saying it had failed).

I've just synced and all is good and working the same as on my Pixel 7 (non pro).

  • In case it's any help, I went in to my Epix 2 watch menu then -> connectivity -> Phone -> Pair Phone and went from there. It showed a QR code (not sure why as this was never used). It then said to confirm the pairing code but that didn't show up anywhere so I think it just timed out.

The second attempt I went in to the Garmin Connect app and hit the More button at the bottom right then 'Garmin Devices'  then added it. It still said it failed but it lied and had actually paired.

  • Thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear you had success. I've tried those exact steps, but no luck. I may end up just doing a hard reset on the watch and see if that does the trick.

  • No worries, at least you know it's not an Android 14 or pixel 8 issue.

  • It only worked for me once I removed it from the Pixel 7 in the Garmin app and then went to connect it in the Garmin app on my Pixel 8. Hope this helps!

  • Thanks for the reply. I ended up doing a hard reset and Garmin Connect found it right away.

The good news is that I discovered there's now a backup and restore feature that I didn't realize existed so a hard reset isn't as painful as it used to be.

  • I did these same steps, just before starting I turned my old phone off so the watch wasn't trying to connect to it instead and the pixel 8 pro was the only phone in bluetooth range

  • According to this thread even some Pixel Watch owners are having problems connecting to Pixel phones. Google is looking into it. Of course it could be a completely unrelated problem.

  • I connected my Epix to my Pixel 8 Pro, but then couldn't get the Marq 2 to connect.  The Epix oddly connected through the Garmin app, but then didn't show up in the bluetooth list initially although eventually did.  I couldn't get the Marq to connect and then finally scrolled down to where the watch shows a QR code to scan and that worked.
