Are (relief) maps running smoothly on Epix (pro) watches?

I am a FR965 owner and the relief maps got introduced with the latest beta. Using those kind of maps, the watch becomes painfully slow when zooming in/out and moving the map around.

I was just wondering whether the Epix Pro models experience similar lag when using maps? Also, how about non-pro users, do relief and non-relief maps run smoothly for you?

  • They all use the same CPU. So, no. Same experience as on your 965.

  • There a bit laggy Epix pro 51mm, but DCRainmaker said the same in his review on YouTube, a lot of data to rewrite when scrolling.

  • I think there's more to it than what DCRainmaker suggests.

They seem laggy if you use the Navigation or Maps activity and start scrolling around or zooming in and out etc to find areas to 'show off' the shading - there's a visible delay before the overlays appear when you move.

HOWEVER - if you're in an activity and have the map screen on at your regular zoom level - the (shaded) relief maps appear to move around just as smoothly as they always have done, and provide an extra level of context to surrounding hills which makes the whole screen a lot more 'glanceable' whilst running especially.

  • I've had an epix 2 pro for several months.intially topoactive maps were great I could zoom out from my position in UK to my house in Spain almost instantly. Now however it is ridiculously slow and won't even zoom out past the UK Midlands where it just shows a white background with lat and long lines.Garmin told me to download a beta temporary fix which has done nothing. They won't replace the watch because they say it's a software issue...I'm now left with an expensive watch that is about as good as a 10 pound model from Ali express......terrible!
