Per activity sound notifications?

Will we ever see a per activity based sound notifications? About a week or two I've asked if it was possible to replace the Epix countdown timer notification (sound) for a vibration, like I had into my Venu (not possible).

My question is: Will see a per activity tone notification possibility in the future?

At the moment I can either enable for everything or nothing at all (system level). If it was on an activity level, although I'd prefer the vibration rather than tone, I could make it work but there are certain activities such as Yoga where the tone is really inconvenient whereas within a gym its acceptable, although sometimes I cannot hear it hence the preference for vibrations.

  • This would a very welcome addition.  The countdown tones during each step in structured workouts are very useful but for other activities I rarely want the sounds on.  Although it is not the end of the world by any means to have to toggle this on before each structured workout, it is one of those "simple" user preference/accessibility things which one expects to see offered on more premium brands/devices, compared to the cheaper options where you expect these sort of deficiencies as a trade-off for the lower price.  Garmin still has some way to go in terms of the overall user experience which still lags behind the superb hardware, metrics, and feature-set on their more premium offerings.

For years, owners of the original Instinct were complaining that it wasn't possible to modify the baked-in alarm labels on their watch.  Still can't do that on *any* Garmin watches as far as I know which is bizarre.  Still, at least on the Instinct you could configure the alarms via GC Mobile - can't even do that for the Epix Gen 2 ... SmileWink

  • I totally agree there.
If I'd be able to ask Garmin for one thing it would be UI consistency.
You can have two products with totally different UI and experiences. I understand having different features, but the core should be the consistent and familiar, that way no matter which device you have, you know what to expect.
I believe DC Rainmaker share a video once with the differences between one of the Forerunners and Fenix for screen timeouts (short, medium, high x 4 seconds, 6 seconds, or 8 secords - or something similar) and I can't imagine the nightmare from a development standpoint to manage all those products as different things but also try to make them "consistent".
They do need to revamp it. If they did, they'd probably be able to listen to us and add these little details in a faster pace rather than having to develop 300 different software versions for 300 different products.
