Where is the auto start option?

I bought this watch epic gen 2 about two month ago upgrade from venu2 and noticed it doesn't auto start an activity. I just found out that is is missing that option on the watch while it is mention in the manual of the watch on your website. This is I think false advertising and garmin could be sue for that. At least give me the option as on my other garmin watch and let me decide if I want to auto start or not as mention in the manual. I am too lazy to start and stop ,a $1000 SMART watch should at least do that. I would be ok if is not done already but my wife garmin watch of $400 does that. Make it make sense to me, how auto start option would hurt your consumers? Who even decide to remove that option and for a what reason? I am just lost here. my refund window is gone otherwise I would just ship it back. Please do an update and put it there, it should not be difficult.

  • Update. I still have the option to return this watch.return started :).

    hi,

I just activated the update for you, check if it is working for you Rofl

why not learn how to use the watch you bought and forget about the 'toy' you used before

this is a mostly user to user forum

if needed call or chat with Garmin Support instead

  • Auto-start is only available at the low-end models (Venu / Vivo) and it is not supposed to be used for monitoring of much more than just a couple of basic activity types. Besides that it triggers the recording only afer 1-3 minutes after starting to run or 5-15 min after starting to walk. It would be useless for an advanced user, and a matter of many complaints if used at the advanced models supporting many dozens of different sports. Unfortunately, you have to start the activities manually.

  • I am wondering if you trolling or are serious. there is an auto start on and off. which mean whoever wants it can enable it or not. but removing the option you put users like me in a bad situation and losing a customer. give me the option to chose, what is wrong with that?

  • Thanks for your reply, but i dont mind the 1-3 minutes after starting and the 5-15min for walking. i just need the option to enabled that. a professional can disbaled that and I am pretty much sure you would not bother if the auto start is there since you are not going to enabled that. that is my point. i run 4-5 days a weeks, 4-5 miles and work out weight lifting just after with a few pause in between. I am jus saying that I dont see how this would hurt or lower the value on a higher ends watch. sound like a bad marketing for me especially for non professional who want to try the watch

directed to me ? because you replied to yourself Rofl

  • A garmin multisport watch is an odd thing to decide to purchase if you never want to have to remember to start and stop activity recording. Users of these watches want to be able to start and stop instantly and accurately when their activity actually starts and ends. Imagine a marathon race where where the officials just say "eh, just start running, and at some point in the next few minutes we'll start the clock for you. When you're done running, just stop running and eventually someone will notice that you're not running anymore and stop the clock." Nobody would want to participate in a race like that, and nobody wants their multisport watch to function like that. Sounds like you made the right call returning the watch, this sounds like it's not the kind of product you want. Probably one of the lower end "health and fitness" watches is what you're looking for.

  • there is an auto start on and off.

Well, I do not own the Epix 2, so cannot tell for sure, but AFAIK only Vivo/Venu models have that feature, so I'd be surprised if Epix 2 had it. Are you sure you have an "Activity Auto Start" option on your Epix 2, and that it is not a setting in Garmin Connect for your old Venu? Could you post a screenshot of the settings screen?

  • They may be thinking of "auto pause".

I have an Epix 2 and it definitely does not have an auto start/stop function.
