Can I disable turn by turn notifications when doing a hiking course?

I created a course and added it to my Epix 2 pro (42mm) for a hike on the weekend. The only thing I didn't like was the constant beeping and vibration from my watch telling me when there was a turn coming up. Is there any way I can disable that? I couldn't find it in the settings.

  • Perhaps this helps: "If you use follow course, then the watch guides you exactly as you created the route. If the route file has turn-by-turn directions, then the watch will show them if you don't manually turn them off. Main settings-> Navigation-> Alerts-> Turn prompts."

  • Other options is to copy and past any given gpx or fit file VIA CABLE to the folder Garmin/NewFiles.

Because every time you sync a route via wireless GCM will interfere in the process and include turns no matter if you have used any other app like Wikiloc, RidwithGPS, Plotaroute etc etc

  • I tried for the first time the follow course option on a trail run and had the same issue, wanted to turn off the beeping at every turn. I THINK I found the solution that is the same as Volker suggested (haven't tried it yet). It's not obvious at first because you need to go into the Navigation settings and not into the Activity settings. So: Settings -> Navigation -> Alerts -> Turn Prompts, and turn them off.

  • Or try the below setting in GCM/GC deep down after 'Edit course':

  • That is a good suggestion, but for some reason, if you import a course from Strava or Fatmap, it does not let you disable the turn notification.

  • yes - you can disable TBT alerts in the options.

When in the activity - have to be actively tracking - menu (first option is to stop navigation - select thrid option - navigation settings - alerts - and deselect Turn prompts.

if you want to apply that to all activities - then from the watch face screen - menu - navigation - alerts - and deselect turn prompts.

Personally I found the bigger issue tended to be the alerts for off course (if using course routing rather than map use), final eta, final distance - as I found that if I turned and faced away from the course and moved slightly off they would generally trigger an alert. Turning off these alerts greatly reduced my alerts and kept it to the actual turns themselves - a bit befofe the turn and at the turn.

  • I do not see this option, I only have speed calculator. Als turning off the tbt in the settings doesn't stop me getting the tbt notifications when following a route.
