Epix 2 Pro Garmin Pay Pin Issue

Hi,

I have had an Epix 2 pro 51mmfor a week and comifng from a Fenix 7X SS the watch is very familiar but the display is amazing.
However I have noticed that the watch keeps asking for the garmin pay pin after an hour or two.

Not sure what causes it, or if its associated to some key sequence etc but it is annoying. It should last 24 hours but it doesnt.

Any ideas Garmin ?.

  • It'll ask for the PIN after the watch has been taken off the wrist.
Maybe wearing it slack, OR an issue with the new HR sensor?

  • Hi Thanks.

Yes I know all that but the device isnt loose on my wrist. I also have a Fenix 7X SS with garmin pay and it doesnt have the same problem.

  • I have had this issue since Garmin Pay was introduced in the Fenix 5+ as I remember posting about it. Ditto with the Fenix 6, Fenix 7 and the new 965!

My feeling is that its because I use an external HRM, maybe wrist HR is interrupted by this?

I just get used to entering a PIN every.single.time

  • for me it seems to last about an hour and I cant pin down any particular button sequence that might trigger it.

  • It can trigger much more frequently than that for me - such as buying a chocolate milk in a store then buying a bus ticket 10 minutes later - that day I had to enter the PIN 3 times, once early in the day then the two instances above a few hours later.

I know they claim its supposed to ask once every 24 hours but its just not the case - I wonder if this is maybe something mandated by our banks, outside of Garmin's control?

  • No issues with mine. Only asks after putting it back on.

  • I have the same issue with the Epix 2 (you can easily find my thread looking for wrist and garmin pay). Garmin improved it recently tweaking the algorithm of wrist detection in 11.xx but in my case while it improved a lot (I used to insert the pin everytime even after a couple of minutes) it didn't solve the issue completely. In a typical day I have to insert the pin a couple of times.

That seems quite bizarre because if you look at the body battery, it disappears immediately after you remove the watch from your wrist but it's perfect stable over the day. So I don't understand why they aren't using the same detection mechanism also for Garmin Pay. May be they want an extra secure detection in this case but so far results aren't that good.

Another thing I believe it's exacerbating the issue is the size of the watch compared to the wrist: large watches move more than smaller ones especially when wrist is small.

  • Same issue here, Epix Pro 51mm Sapphire. Never had this issue with earlier Garmin watches. It is very tight on my wrist, and still keeps asking for the pin very often.

Just before I go into a store I alway check if Garmin Pay needs the pin, and type in the pin if needed, but still asking for pin when 5 min lated I need to pay. Or the other day at the payment terminal, typing in the pin, then payment fails, starting Garmin Pay again, and asking for the pin again. Very  very annoying. Watch only coming off my wrist when needing changing.

  • On my Epix Pro 51mm I have no problems with the payment option. I put it on shortcuts to activate, fill in only once a day the pin and then it works a s it should ...
