Epix Pro Gen 2 - Updated Golf Map Graphics

Hi,

Does anyone know if the new Epix Pro (Gen 2) released this week, will have the updated map graphics in the Golf mode as per the recently released Approach S70?

Looking to upgrade to one of these two watches as an avid golfer, but would much prefer the rounded package of the Epix.

However, the graphics of the golf maps is a big priority for me.

Keen to get anyones thoughts that has thier hands on the new Epix Pro who has already played a round.

Cheers,

  • I'm in the same boat. The updated golf interface/graphics is a top priority for me, although I'd hate to have to "downgrade" to a less capable model just to have the graphics.

I think just knowing if this is being planned in the future, would help people to make a decision on which direction to go with their watch model. I'd even be willing to pay extra for a software upgrade to the new interface.

  • Any update to this? Has the Epix Gen 2 received the updated golf graphics?

  • until the beta comes out its pointless to even ask this question.

Would suggest signing up for the beta and then seeing if that becomes part of the beta or not.

  • plays like is fully updated now.

Not seeing the new biome updates (i.e. trees etc ) but then its possible that the course I checked needs and update and haven't triggered it yet.

  • Nope! Garmin has NOT (and likely WILL not) "updated map graphics in the Golf mode as per the recently released Approach S70"

Pay close attention here, as this is SUPER confusing (intentionally?) and MIND-numbingly frustrating ... in the name of "product segmentation?" .... exactly the kind of stuff Garmin cannot AFFORD in the battle for market with Apple/Samsung/etc.  To be crystal clear: Garmin has added extra complex conditional logic (extra $$$) to the same firmware codebase to exclude EPIX from the MARQ features listed below. Absolutely insane!

    EPIX 14.36 gets this:

    Added Golf "Plays Like" improvements.
Added Golf Biomes support for OLED products.
Added Multisport option for race calendar.
Fix Golf scorecard button not properly dismissing.
Fixed issue with golf plays like using stale weather data.

But MARQ 2 14.36 (yes, same firmware!) in addition to above gets these extras:

Added new Golf Virtual Caddie interface.
Added Virtual Caddie suggestion in green view for Marq 2 Golfer.
Added tree drawing to golf on Marq 2.
    Improved golf Hole Picker.

As for the obscure difference between Biome support vs tree drawing (can you IMAGINE some sales dude trying to explain this to a customer?!) my belief is that EPIX got improved swap/lake/green boundary/fairway details (and from my own experience on EPIX Pro, this does look MUCH better) but only MARQ actually gets the trees.

    In case you've lost track:

The S70 for $699 gets trees.

The EPIX Pro 51mm for $1099 does NOT get trees.

The MARQ 2 Golfer for $2300 gets trees.

  • Thanks for the update and hard to believe.

  • To be crystal clear: Garmin has added extra complex conditional logic (extra $$$) to the same firmware codebase to exclude EPIX from the MARQ features listed below. Absolutely insane!

No it is not. Marq golfer is supposed to be top of the range golf-watch, so it is natural that Garmin makes sure it matches S70. Epix doesn't have aviation either or other niece specialities marq variants and fenix/epix derivatives might have.

  • Your position MIGHT make sense IF these golf features (tree drawing for example) were exclusive to the $2300 MARQ 2 Golfer. But re-read the original question. Here is a potential Garmin customer trying to choose between a $699 golf watch versus spending an extra $500 on the Epix PRO which (per Garmin themselves):

"we’re excited to bring innovative features to our most capable smartwatch yet"

"You're an athlete who refuses to compromise. Wherever you're going, only the best will do"

On a golf course, EPIX Pro is NOT their most capable smartwatch. You DO compromise. It is NOT better than the $500 cheaper S70. And Garmin makes is PAINFULLY difficult to know any of these important details BEFORE plunking down the cash.
