Outdoor cycling heart rate issues

I need some help. I did my first outdoor ride of the year a month ago after riding indoors for the winter. My heart rate monitor wouldn't exceed 100 bpm. I rode yesterday and my heart rate ranged from 160 to 170. So all is good. Well, today I rode again and my heart rate, again, wouldn't go over 100 bpm. I stopped and switched from bike outdoors to bike indoors and my heart rate was back to the 160-170 range. Has anyone experienced this or have a solution? I don't use a chest monitor, if that is what you're wondering and I'm up to date on all updates.  Further, this was not an issue last summer.

  • I did post there and there are ongoing threads regarding this issue.

Only mentioned here because you mentioned you using hrm.  And for me with hrm there still issue with heart beat spike due to unstable connection ( respiration gap means hrm briefly lost connection to the watch ) tried with two hrm pro plus

So i can't win with watch and can't win with. Hrm pro plus.

  • For me I am seeing no issue with the HRM Pro Plus - I did another two hours today.

Respiration is derived from HRV (R-R intervals) so if you are finding gaps in data it suggests to me for whatever reason your strap is producing ‘noisy’ data - but I doubt this is an issue with the watch because respiration is calculated from data from the strap.

I do not see much value in respiration data personally but that is another story….
