How best to use the Epix and Edge xx40 Series Bike Computer

Hi,

I've tried to do some research on what the best setup is with an Epix watch and Edge bike computer. I've read some posts about older setups where you were able to integrate the Fenix and older Edge computers, but nothing about the latest.

Does anyone have any first hand experience? I did 75k this weekend on the Bow Valley Parkway (Banff, Canada) this weekend, and used both my Epix and Edge 1040. As far as I can tell, Garmin Connect only shows the info from my Epix and I don't see any of the detailed info I'd expect to see from my Edge in Garmin Connect. I've synced my phone and Edge a few times, but still nothing on my ride from the Edge... I didn't figure out how to start my course on the Edge until about 5km in lol, as I just picked up the Edge Friday evening and with the kids etc., didn't have much time to play with it.

I read briefly about using 'Physio True Up' I believe - would this sync the Epix and Edge?!

Appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks

  • No, that's the problem: I sync, but in Connect, it shows two separate activities. They don't seem to sync to realize it's the same ride.

  • That’s not possible. You only record on one device.
I record everything with the watch. Except bike sessions (and here except the ones during Multisport).
Physio True Up on the EDGE is enabled.
If you recorded with the watch, the edge will receive the workout after sync. If you record with the EDGE, same for the watch.

  • How do you have the devices set; primary wearable and primary training device?

  • I use a Fenix 7 for most stuff and an Edge 830 for cycling. I used to use my my Edge as an extended display for the Fenix 7 but now use it as the recording device due to improved temperature and elevation accuracy. The only thing I'm losing out on is stamina data from the F7. I use the F7 as both the Primary Wearable and Primary Training Device in line with Garmin's recommendation. No issues with sync or integration of data.

  • I wear my Epix Pro pretty much 24/7 and I use an Edge 840 for my rides.

I like having the Edge on the bars because it's easy to see and much easier to see the maps. Also, my watch is often underneath a jacket or jersey sleeve.

I typically leave my watch on the screen that controls the music on my phone, so I can pause my music by just touching a button on the watch.

I record my rides on both devices, for insurance. If one of the devices doesn't record the ride properly, I have the other one to use. If they both record the ride properly, then I just discard the ride from the Edge when I finish my ride.

    I love the combination.
