Always on display not working, and gesture will not work

My watch just arrived today. Initially it seemed to be working fine, but after a couple of hours it is not.

I noticed the display would not come on with a wrist gesture. I had to press a button for the display to come on.

When I hold down the top left button the display is set to on. (although confusingly enough the symbol turns to green when set to off, and turns to grey when set to on!)

In the system settings in Display, under general use I have the always on setting switched to off. However, even when I tried switching this to always on the screen would still timeout after 8 seconds and then gesture mode (although set to on) will not work. 

When connected to Garmin Connect it says I am up to date and there are no updates available. 

Please help. It is very frustrating to have to press a button every time I want to see the time on the watch.

    I believe this will give you the results you want:

    • Always on Display: Off
    • Wrist Gesture: On
    • Timeout: 8 seconds (options are 4, 8, or 15 seconds)

    Display comes on with wrist movement, then turns off after 8 seconds of no movement.

    Please ignore this one. This was me being an idiot. Earlier on I had set the sleep settings to 11-6. I then realised I had set the clock to 24hr format. So the watch thought I wanted to be in sleep mode, therefore gesture mode was not working. I reset sleep time to 23:00hrs and all is working fine.
