Garmin EPIX 2 turning on and off by itself lying on the table with Heart Rate - ON

Hello, Garmin,

my Epix 2 is turning on and off just lying on the table, you can hit lightly the table somewhere near the watch and the screen with turn on.

Software version: 10.44

I have done resetting to Default settings, the one that is not deleting activities and music. Switching off and on several times, doesn't help.

I also do not have many apps on watch to think that some faulty app can trigger it. I only have two watch faces installed and Spotify, that's it.

Wearing watch on my hand it's not turning on and off by itself, something is wrong when it's on the table, but what is it?

I have AOD off, I like to activate watch by touching it.

The screen even turned on while I was typing this message, so not a heavy hit on the table is needed to turn the screen on.

!!! OK, seems I found the root cause during writing this message, but still I think it's not good behavior. So when turned OFF Heart Rate, so this green light is not working on the back of the watch and watch is not turning on/ off

How to fix it? Is this even notified?

My one (and the one before) behaves the same, without a single extra installed app, so It's by design I guess.

It doesn't bother me though, because I only take it off for charging or showers.

Hi, my Watch make the same! It seems to be the vibration at your table. Or the surface on which the watch is lying!

The sensors are very sensitive to movement.

yes, probably you are right, but interesting that wearing on your wrist watch doesn't do so, but you are moving your hand and it doesn't act the same

I think the watch know that they lay on a surface an not at your hand...an in ths case ty switch into standby. If the watch notice vibration then they switch on to be ready for wearing.

I suspect it has to do with trying to determine if you are picking up the watch and thus whether it should be turning the OHR back on and any other sensors it might switch to save power while you aren't using it.

It will not do this while on your wrist as the OHR can detect it is on your wrist (just like how it works for Garmin Pay etc) and thus it will not act the same - different protocols/programming.

So to me it doesn't seem to be bug in that sense as If the watch is moved I would expect it to wake up and get ready to be active/to be worn; however I will agree in that it does seem a touch overly sensetive - but as battery life is so long I would rather it was sensetive than having to wave it around to trigger it back to woken state.
