Disconnects during night, and never reconnects ("you need an app for this connection")

So My Epix 2 has started since a week back to NOT reconnect after a nights sleep. I usually have my Samsung Fold Z3 in my living room about 5 meters away from my bedroom. After a normal night with about 8 hours of sleep, currently my Epix 2 does not sync up anymore. I am on the latest firmware and software on all devices, so I guess this is a new issue (se below) since last release or something.

Anyway in the mobile settings for bluetooth, if I click on my watch mapping, I get the message that says something like " you need an app for this" - very funny!

Now I used to have a Tactix Charlie with my Sone Xperia mobile a while back - I had the exact same error on that one, so this is NOT the first time I encountered this error - and Garmin blamed Sony , and Sony blamed Garmin that time. Let's see if the same happens this time! My vote is on Garmin har problem with there software, since I am now with two watches from Garmin with two different manufactures for Android mobile phones....

  • <<So My Epix 2 has started since a week back to NOT reconnect after a nights sleep>> This means that you have connected the watch to the phone in the past and therefore do know that this is true, not funny, "in the mobile settings for bluetooth, if I click on my watch mapping, I get the message that says something like " you need an app for this" - very funny!" It's not funny, it's how it works by design - The manual says:

    Pairing Your Phone

To use the connected features on your watch, you must pair it directly through the Garmin Connect app, instead of from the Bluetooth settings on your phone.

So - I would suggest that something is wrong somewhere and I would suggest two low impact attempts to fix the problem.:

    1. Turn off the watch and after a few seconds turning back on, not soft or hard reset just off and on.

    If that fails,

    2. Remove the phone from Garmin connect and reconnect it.

There may be a bigger problem and the watch is defective, but I suspect, as often is the case, it's not a major problem.

  • Well, let's do this one more time then: It used to work for months, without a hickup. And since about a week it does not.

Yes I can resolve this by restarting my phone AND watch - but hey that is a bandaid resolution to a programming error from Garmin. But why should I restart everything just to solve Garmin program error? It used to work, now it does not.

  • Yes, I also have this exact problem.  I had/have a Fenix 6X which has no such issues (I have had a Fenix since about model 3 and there has not been a problem like this).  I have tried power settings on the watch.  Resetting the phone resolves the issues.  But I cannot be doing that every morning.

Connection just seems less reliable in General with the Fenix I could wander all over the place, at work and connection used to be rock solid.  It makes me wonder if I made the right decision in buying an Expix.  Part of the reason I have a smart watch is so I can get messages when I leave my phone in my pocket or on my desk.

  • has your phone maybe had an update, or has the connect app perhaps updated. Either one could cause an issue.

  • It might be either. It still is not working though.  I have gone from using the 6X pro to the Epix and the Epix is not working. It would seem to me that if it works on the 6X it should work on the brand new very expensive watch.

Thank you for replying. There does not seem to be a solution elsewhere yet.
