Battery indicator showing shorter than usual projected life

I have just updated to 10.44. Immediately after the installation I noticed the battery indicator had gone down by several days, although the battery percentage had only dropped by a couple of points during installation. I did a reset on the watch and plugged it in to recharge. It is now showing 100% battery life and the remaining days are 14. This is 2 days lower than usual when fully charged (It has invariably shown 16 days at 100% charge). It’s not a big deal, but has anyone else noticed this? Is it a sign of the battery aging and not holding as much charge or is it making an estimate based on how much I have been using it recently (I have just started wearing it overnight)? Or is it something I have misunderstood?

  • no - as battery estimates are based off settings, not off actual estimated battery life.

i.e. if you have you watch set up with standard options then it estimates 6% per day = 16 days. Somewhere you have toggled a setting that increases Garmin's estimate of daily usage from 6% to 7% and hence it will now estimate 14 days instead of 16 days; this is always why even if you have heavy usage and are actually burning 10% battery per day (as maybe you like to run with offline music) and only have 50% left, that your battery estimate will show 8 days (6*8=48%) instead of real usage of 5 days (which sort of makes sense as there is no guarantee that for the next 5 days you actually will run with offline music and thus it be cause 10% drain per day. Dropping from 16 days to 14 days if your battery is at 100% suggests that you changed a setting which has a quantifiable impact on battery life (some settings do not have a quantifiable impact on battery and are ignored for battery calcs) - maybe display brights, pluse ox, wrist gesture etc..

  • You are right. I had forgotten that when I started wearing it at night a few days ago I turned on “During sleep” PulseOx. That shortens the predicted battery life by exactly two days. Thank you very much for the helpful reply.
