v10.43 - Apple AirPods Pro 2 - Continued Audio and Connectivity Issues

Hi all,

Starting this new thread to document ongoing AirPods Pro 2 issues with my Epic 2.  I'm on 10.43 and the latest AirPods firmware.  I'm finding that while general listening issues are largely resolved, there are still dropouts/disconnects when I'm running particularly fast (for me) and the connection gets very wonky.  Basically, if I'm running faster than a 6:30 pace, the AirPods Pro 2 and my epix 2 garble the connection and sound eventually goes away.   Anyone else experiencing this?

  • I have the same problem... the gen2 AirPods now drop out every 5-10 minutes. Going to Spotify and pressing PLAY reconnecting the AirPods and the music continues... it's just very annoying to press play all the time while running.

  • I had dropout issues with my airpod pros 2 and pretty much solved it by telling all the devices that had previously been connected to the AirPods to not automatically connect to them in the settings on the phone. You have to connect to that device, go to settings, select the airpod pros and deselect the auto connect option.

  • To be clear this was not with my Epix, so my solution may be unrelated.

  • I will give this a try.

  • I've been continually having issues with the Powerbeats Pro's seemingly losing audio for brief moments during running even after the 10.43 software update. I've informed Garmin about this. I've tried 2 different pairs of Powerbeats Pro's and still get it. I've been using Spotify as the music provider and it seems to happen 2-5 times every 5mi run (or thereabouts).

  • I had this issue with my airpods gen3 and it was fixed in latest update but I want to help you guys because I know how frustrating this was.

For everyone having issues please ensure you do the following:

    1) Turn off bluetooth on every other apple product you have. The airpods will attempt to connect to those first. If you leave your phone on your desk and just pop your airpods in, most likely they will connect to your iphone, ipad, mac, macbook, potentially apple TV if you are in range - first.

    2) Turn off "auto connect" on your macs if you have them. I turned on "last connected to mac" so it never just connects to it. This is described here.

We need some questions answered from everyone having issues:

    A) Airpods give an audible sound when connecting or disconnecting from a device. Do you hear this when the airpods "drop out/disconnect" or does audio just stop playing and you have to click play again?

    B) Is your watch under your jacket or do you have anything covering your watch while running, or is in the open?

    C) Do you have another pair of headphones you can try (non airpods), and does it behave the same way with those other headphones (non airpods)

    D) Are you able to record a video of this happening? I would suggest using a bluetooth speaker (yes a speaker, not headphones) and pair it to the watch. Play your music and run with it (at your fast pace) and record a video so we can hear the audio dropout or the issue you're experiencing

    E) What model and what firmware version is your airpods? Here is how to find it. Have you updated to the latest firmware?

    F) Does your watch show "reconnecting" when this happens at all? Any messages on the screen?

Please reply back with an answer to each of these questions so it will be more helpful for dev to review and reproduce. Recording a video of it happening is going to be extremely helpful, video is worth 6 million words.

  • Ensure your Airpods Pro 2 software have been fully updated. If you continue to experience an issue, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.
