GPS routing in the car as last resort if cell phone doesnt work

So I recently took a trip to another country where there was no cell service. I didn't have an epix at the time and don't have s GPS device. I was wondering if anyone has had success using their epix as a GPS for driving. Without cell service I was unable to search for restaurants etc but I find that the epix has a POI and everything so was curious if anyone has used this?

Yes, but generally navigable is preferred ;-)

I have tried. No ideal, of course, but it works. You need Open Street Maps for it to work since the Garmin ones are not navigatable by car (is that a word?)

I have used it a lot in countries where cell services are too expensive for a 24/48 hours stay. And it is a lifesaver.
You can check if your taxi goes in the right direction of your hotel or the airport for example.
It is really handy and very low profil.
Garmin Fenix Epix & Tactix are very handy where there is no network to be used. They are real adventure tool watches.

Do you know how often garmin updates their POI's on their maps? Businesses are constantly coming and going, for example if I want to find a restaurant or gas station and they left 3 months ago but the watch thinks they are there. I connect my watch to express and havent seen a map update yet
