How often are System updates for Epix2?

Hey guys,

I am trying to decide whether to enroll in Beta Program, because it has really cool new features (Morning Report) and improvements or simply wait for official release. However, I am not sure how often does Garmin release system software updates? I remember reading or hearing somewhere that it is only once per quarter. Meaning that next one will be in Q1? Since last update was (9.37) was 2-3 weeks ago.

Hi David. The official software updates are going to be quarterly for the Epix 2 series watches. There are sometimes minor small updates that will come too. For example, the Q3 2022 official was v9.33…

That counts for "big" updates, not "small" updates with fixes. The last big update was the Q3 update, the Q4 update is still in beta (Wrist based running power, Morning Report, Next Fork etc.).

There’s likely to be a public release before the end of the year, effectively Q4

The current beta is what was the old Release Candudate so should be more stable than the alpha versions. I’ve always installed the beta versions no matter what they’ve been called and had no problems. However, as you’ll see others will likely warn you off. At the end of the day you can choose to wait a few more weeks for the next public release or join the beta program, get the new features now, and also help improve future versions of software

Thanks for answer! I am interested in testing Beta, I read a bit about how to do it. I am only a bit worried about installing that specific 'secure_config' file they are mentioning. As it requires me to manually do it through Garmin Express I believe.

Ah OK, makes sense. Didn't see when when the v9 came out, as I only recently got the watch. :) I might enroll to Public Beta though, I am reading about it on Wiki and is basically a 'release candidate' so it should be pretty stable.

Install the secure_config file direct to the REMOTESW folder on the watch through Windows Explorer or Android File System if MacOS

What does install mean tho? Copy / Paste the GCD file or actually running that file?

Hi David. The official software updates are going to be quarterly for the Epix 2 series watches. There are sometimes minor small updates that will come too. For example, the Q3 2022 official was v9.33 then became v9.36 and v9.37 relatively quickly after v9.33.

The official software updates will be posted at the very top of the forum when they are released. The Q4 update is coming very, very soon. I already have a date for it but until it is official, the last 2 Beta versions are solid information on what to expect in the official Q4 update.
