Epix2 extreme inaccurate openwater swimming tacking

Epix2 inaccurate openwater swimming: my new Epix gen 2 tracks open water swimming extremely inaccurate.
software  9.37 Data recording to 1 sec. All satellites plus multiband.
My forerunner 735xt showed today 216 m the Epix 95m. From measuring in google maps and my swimspeed the 735xt is right. Swim style is front crawl. Wearing the epix on the head does not change the result significantly. GPS tracking for running is accurate. My main sport is OWS. Is there anything I can do / try before sending the Epix back and stick to my 735xt?

  • if you're wearing on your head and watch is not immersed in water you shouldnt have issues.  for me and others, wearing on your wrist does produce unreliable distance.

  • With a sports watch for the price of the Epix I expect accurate gps tracks when wearing on my wrist. My old 735xt and an Apple Watch tested for comparison can do it. I have the hope that is a bad batch of Epix.
    What are your experiences?

  • Wearing the epix on the head does not change the result significantly.

In which case something else might be amiss. Would you post some tracks? For me and others, wearing on the wrist does produce consistently reliable results but as usual, that is not the case for everyone.

If you continue to have issues with the watch under the swim cap I would strongly suggest you contact Garmin Support. In any case contact Garmin Support to report the issues you are having with OWS with your Epix when worn on your wrist. They are tracking this as you would see if you looked at earlier posts.

  • I experienced a similar issue this summer. In my case it was due to the fact that I entered and started the activity with my wrist already under the water. Epix was unable to acquire all satellites and lock them when I was crawling. May be you are already doing the right way but if not, try this way: enter the activity, wait for the GPS acquisition, wait for a few seconds more (10-15) and then start it.
