VO2max and Training status not updating since 9.33

Hi all, anybody encountered this problem already? I checked back in Garmin Connect, last VO2max update was in a run on 28-Aug with SW version Epix Gen2 8.37. After the software update to 9.33 none of my runs recorded a VO2max data point anymore. And I mean, it doesn’t show any point (also not the same value, just none) in the history graph, it just stops on 28-Aug. Also on the watch in the VO2max screen it shows last update 28-Aug. I ran at least an 11K, a 6K and 2 faster 5K’s definitely meeting the criteria for VO2max calculations (outdoor GPS, >70% of maxHR etc). Due to the No Data on VO2max it can’t show a Training Status in the widgets, so it’s showing No Status….. Seems to be a SW update problem as all the following runs were done with the 9.33 version after the update, this can’t be a coincidence. Is there a solution, or has anybody encountered the same problem?

  • I would try first to power on / power off, go for a 25mn run at 70%+ with GPS and see if VO2 Max registers.. If that doesn't do anything, do a soft reset (keep the light button press until shutdown) and go for another run. If nothing works, do a factory reset.

Since I'm with 9.33 I have a similar problem. My VO2max is not updated regularly. I already have one run with no Performance condition data. On two other runs I get PC data but it's not after 6 min but after about 9 min which is weird. I have not changed the HR max and HR zones.

  • On two other runs I get PC data but it's not after 6 min but after about 9 min which is weird. I have not changed the HR max and HR zones.

I get delayed performance condition values when i'm running really slowly and my HR is like 68% or less of maxHR.

If you're running as before and the only change is the software version...then nevermind Slight smile

(lower temperature could impact HR a few beats and if you were already running with lower zones/HR the few beats less could give you a delayed performance value).

  • OK will try that tomorrow. I already did a power off/on, but will do again before starting my run. For sure I will go over 70% for at least 25 mins. What is the difference of a soft reset compared to switching off/on? And does it default any settings/parameter values?

  • I do not know the difference between an on/off cycle and a soft reset, but neither one affects any setting.

  • On/off cycle just powers down and powers on the device.

What some call a ‘soft reset’ is in fact a hard reset that empties buffers and resets the device while retaining all settings etc. Always best to sync before doing a hard reset so that unsynced data such as steps etc are not lost.

A Full reset/factory reset removes all user settings and data reverting the watch back to the state in which it was received, apart from any recent software updates.

  • I am getting the same issue. I used to get recommendations for my run when starting the run app. They are gone for now.

  • Are you getting VO2 Max data points for the days you run? Check under training status, VO2 Max  the 4week chart on the watch? Check also on Garmin Connect.

Are you seeing workout suggestions under Run > Training > Workouts?

When selecting a suggestion, press the start button and scroll down to enabling or disabling prompts?

Note 1: I had this issue where prompts were not working. I did a factory reset and they are working now 9.33

Note 2: Garmin has been working on sync issues affecting suggestions. I have seen some problems going away in the last 48h. Maybe still some time to go?

  • I did my run, after a power off/on and a soft reset. There is NO VO2max calculated, and as such I have no Training Status.

Last one is still back to 28 Aug which shows in that run it was with the older software version 8.37. Each and every run I did since then was with the 9.33. Not one run calculated VO2max anymore. So switching off/on and a soft reset didn't help. This is clearly a 9.33 problem.......

  • Are your runs meeting the requirements? Did you check your HR Max to make sure it was not changed to a higher value, which could make you miss the last criterium?

    Running VO2 Max Estimate

    • The Run activity must be 10 minutes or longer.

    • The activity must be recorded outdoors with a GPS signal.

    • The GPS must not be set to UltraTrac (see your device's owner's manual for information on adjusting the GPS settings).

    • Heart rate data must be recorded (from either a built-in optical heart rate sensor or from a chest strap).

    • Your heart rate must be elevated to at least 70% of your maximum heart rate for at least 10 minutes continuously.

Since the VO2 Max is calculated on the watch check again on the watch whether there are data points on the watch. Maybe it is a sync issue with Garmin.

If you don't have updates on the watch, I am running out of ideas since I don't have this issue with 9.33

I would go for a factory reset.
