Epix 2 - run power alerts disable

Dear all,

i am a Stryder and use it with my Epix on latest beta. Since a few updates there is run power implemented Wheather I use my HRM pro or wahoo tickr. I am using power based training peaks running plans and my watch warns me every 20 sec that I am above the given power zone. I do not want to use Garmin run power but there is no off switch. Neither I was able to find where to deactivate run power alerts. In the running Settings there is no such option and in the system setting audio prompts for power alerts and all other alerts are switched off.

to be honest. It is driving me nuts and I try to remember my workout and use it without the structured plan - and that is really crazy.

Hone you can help me

thanks a lot

  • Thank you for your report. Now that the Epix 2 series have been updated with the Q3 2022 official v9.33 software update, please update your Epix 2. If you continue to experience issues, please re-post in the Epix 2 forum or you are welcome to reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region. Thank you.

  • If you connect your HRM pro using bluethooth instead of ANT+ the garmin power will be disabled.

  • but this doesn't resolve the reported issue. I also would like to disable the power alerts as Garmin power is completely different to the numbers I get from my Stryd footpad and it drives me crazy. I have the 9.33 firmware. thanks

  • I find I get a better connection with ANT+

  • Hi - we'd like to confirm a few conditions of your use case, would you mind providing a few files for us that will help investigate this behavior?

This wiki page provides information on how to access files from your watch, as well as directs you to our customer file upload portal: https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/w/beta-wiki/125/how-to-access-and-upload-files-from-your-garmin-watch

If you could please upload the requested files below to this portal, then comment here when you have done so, then we can take a closer look at this issue you are experiencing. Please be sure to hit the "submit" button after attaching files to this portal, that button isn't immediately obvious.

Here are the files I'd like to see from your watch. I would recommend copying off each of these folders to your computer, then creating a single zipped folder containing all contents, and then upload that zip. All of the below are found within the Internal Storage\Garmin folder on the watch.

    • the entire Sports folder
    • the entire Workouts folder
    • The settings.fit file from the Settings folder.

    Thanks!

  • I can send you my files as well but I don't see any options to upload files here in the forum.

  • Hi , thanks! Yes if you are seeing the same issue, I would like to see the same requested files I mentioned above. Attaching files directly to the forums will not work, but you can also use the Wiki link I provided above to locate the link to our Customer File Upload portal. Just give me a heads up here when files are uploaded so I know to go and download them on my end.

Do you also use workouts from Training Peaks that have a Power target? If not from Training Peaks, could you please elaborate on what type of workout you are following, where the Power Alerts behavior is disruptive to your use?

  • I've uploaded my files now.

Yes I also build power based run workouts in TrainingPeaks which I then have synced to my Epix. The process was working fine up until the latest firmware release.

My power numbers are based on Stryd as I use a Stryd foot pod. The power levels are much lower than what Garmin reports (I use an HRM Pro as well) and consequently I get alerts that I am running way above target. As an example, my workout might state that I need to run at 300w but the watch and HRM-Pro see me as running at 400w. As this is so much higher than target I get alerts.

  • same behaviour here. Stryd + HRM-Pro. Stryd reports much lower power compared to Garmin run power. All pre-build workouts from training peaks are measured against Garmin run power and alerts overreaching the power zones occur every 20 sec for x times - that count restart with a new lap.

do you need more files for your investigation?

  • Thank you for the files, I have downloaded them and documented the concerns on this thread. Our team will investigate this behavior further.
