v9.36 Official Software Fast Battery Drain

I'm going through the battery in 24-48 hours. No apps or fields installed. No GPS activities. Also having sync issues where I have to kill the connect app on Android to get it to sync. I had the same issues on beta now it persists into the production release

  • Hi Chris!

I am not using segments at all and I would appreciate if you added me to the tracking.
Maybe the following info is of help for you:

While under v8.37 the drain was moderate and gave me aprox. 10 days of running time (constantly connected to my phone).
Immediately after the update to v9.33 the running time dropped significantly to only 4 days.
After I executed the factory reset steps you mentioned earlier the situation improved a bit and now it seems that the EPIX 2 can manage 6-7 days.
Way better than than the 4 days but still not as good as with v8.37.
What I observed as well, it seems it makes no difference wether the phone is connected (BT) or not. Battery drain seems the same/similar in both scenarios.
This leads me to the conlusion that the major power consumption is located somewhere with in the device itself.

    Just my 2 cents,
    Tom

  • It concerns me that I've yet to see any acknowledgement from Garmin that there appears to be two distinct scenarios - people experiencing very fast battery drain (e.g. 100% in 24 hrs), and people seeing accelerated battery drain (e.g. double the normal rate). Although this has been repeated by owners many times in this thread and others, I've only ever seen Garmin talk about it as if there's just one single issue.

@Garmin - Chris please assure us that Garmin are aware of and are investigating both of these symptoms so we're not just going to end up with a fix which doesn't resolve the issue for half of us.

  • appears to be two distinct scenarios

There’s actually three distinct scenarios as some have reported no issues with battery drain.

  • My wife has Forerunner 255 and she has also accelerated battery drain after newest firmware (no Strava account). Same kind of problems also on people with Forerunner 955 and Fenix 7. To me it seems that something has been messed up across product lines in the newest firmware versions. Garmin should analyze what common changes have been made to all of these products in the firmware. That should lead to the root cause.

  • That hardly counts as a “scenario” within the context of this thread.

  • Now that's 5 Star quality post! Stuck out tongue

  • Looks there are more bugs in 9.33 , i also see reports of barometer, bt connections with external divices since 9.33, did Garmin not test the software ? Or just said: screw our customers and  alpha/beta testers, lets bring out a buggy version and we see what happen ?  Thats a bit the feeling i get from this all Disappointed

  • There are more bugs in my experience, As an example I have Issues now here when I finish training using a HR-PRO and take it off the Wrist Optical HR doesn't restart for several minutes or in some cases at all until I manually take a reading and in some cases it spikes to crazy readings for several minutes before I get a sane reading. Result is the HR Plots in connect are messed up. Suspect Initialisation code in firmware for the OHR has had bug/s introduced in 9.33 given the release notes list it has 'improvements to WHR'

This has been reported to Support and Iam in process of collecting a weeks worth of data to send to them together with other issues/bugs I have spotted after 9.33 (There are several other irritating ones Ive spotted since I installed on 2608/2022).

Like the Epix Gen 2 hardware and the features but these issues are beginning to take the shine off using it here for me.

  • I've noticed increased battery drain but nothing too excessive. My issue at the moment is my ear buds stop controlling the phone.

I'll tap an ear bud to pause my music and then tap again to resume, but it doesn't. I have to do it manually through my phone.

This is with Sony wf1000-xm4 buds. I bought these as my Jaybird Vista buds stopped working with my Fenix 6. Joy

I wouldn't be without my Epix, nothing else touches it for sports but it's stuff like this that just takes the shine away, they're so close to an untouchable product. I feel like Garmin need a bigger QA dept.

  • Hello Chris

I send you a message yesterday for participation to the tracking list but no answer from you. Tracking list is OK ?

Nothing to be done from the user to add the tracking ?
