v9.36 Official Software Fast Battery Drain

I'm going through the battery in 24-48 hours. No apps or fields installed. No GPS activities. Also having sync issues where I have to kill the connect app on Android to get it to sync. I had the same issues on beta now it persists into the production release

  • Glad it's not just me.  Battery is getting chewed up at about 2x the normal rate with 1/day workouts.

  • Another thought: if you are doing a lot of exercises with the watch, then the "idle" power consumption might not be that visible in the overall battery lifetime. Just a thought.

  • You are fine. If your issue is so severe you instead choose to backdate for now until the new software update resolves the issue, it is an option. However, since we no longer post Beta software at the top of the forum for each device, it can be more difficult to find the older software. Please note, your watch will master reset during the process.

  • Hi Chris,

What's that list you mentioned for? Is there any benefit of being there? If so, you can add my name to it.

I let the battery deplete (~ 6 days vs ~12 before) charge to full on Tuesday with an expected battery of 14D and now thrusday with an expected battery of 6D.

I deactivated Strava segments about 10 days ago and as you can see that didn't help. However I have a garmin segment of more of 20km but it is not starred and I don't know how to delete if it possible.

Adding screenshots and willing to test anything if that will help troubleshoot.

Thank you Chris for your precise answer !
(I have kept some Beta....)  ;-)
Have a good week end !

I will copy and paste your answer on the backdate thread. :-)

  • Dear Chris followed all the step.

Even deleted connection with strava app.

Battery drain 2x faster than usual (every 12h -> 1 day less)

I have done at last the factory reset, that means a lot of time spent to set up the watch again.

let me say that for the level you position this watch in the market there are too many critical bugs (battery, wallet pin request  for each use, etc.), and slow response.

    Regards

  • The new Apple watch ultra looks a good deal now also, it has better battery life now then our watch now, incredible ........(sarcastic)

Again and again i say this: unbelieveble the owners of a 1000$+ watch are asked / forced to reset all, have all work/tinkering made undone and in many cases it does not even work and the battery drain stays. If this was Apple/ Samsung the news worldwide would have slaughtered those companies, but for some reason Garmin gets away with it because it has such loyal and trustworthy customers/fans i guess.

Hardware seems fine, but Garmin does seem to have second rate devellopers in service who can not make a decent software package:(

At least make it so that people can revert back to 8.37 or so, and give the option to reinstall that in an easy way without losing all settings etc, maybe a full backup uttility ?

Nope. Our sick Epixes are still around 5 days in AOD. Better than Apple Ultra 36 hours announced and future 60 hours announced on their next update. ;-)

BTW I have made an OEM Watchface with digital time, battery and date and step. Simple one. I even kept the seconds on.
BUT  I have turned ON the Plane Mode. So Heart Rate is still ON.
    Gesture Only mode.

Instead of 5 days I'm back on 12 days (Battery Graph projection). Garmin Projection being at 14 days.

It is a normal drain. But at the price of cutting all BT and Wifi com.

    Edit:

In Plane Mode On, the drain seems to be stopped on my Epix with now 13 days projections on Battery Graph
And 0.28%/hour on my other battery monitoring widget.

So the drain seems link to BT ?

As the drain on my Epix has start after BETA 9.33 which bringing that:
"Fixed being unable to remove a Connect IQ app via the Garmin Connect mobile app."

Could it be a hint ? BT is the culprit ?

  • One day I agree with you. Apple are going to turn Garmin into Nokia. But right now, 16 days in the same configuration, the Apple watch gets 60 hours. No comparison. Also the apple watch is far far slicker, smaller and faster. Not a comparison

  • Argh!  Add me to the list.  I held off updating while out of town.  I updated yesterday and have lost 18% in 22 hrs (this includes 9 hrs. of 'sleep mode').  Everything is stock, no Strava, no GPS, no workouts.  I really wanted to start the HRV clock so I took the chance.  Very disappointed.  Although the Apple Ultra battery life is still way too short - it's looking like a better option.  Is doing a factory reset a guarantee to fix the problem?  I don't want to go that far if it isn't.
