Charging cord fitment - falls out easily?

Does anyone else have an issue with poor fitment of the charging cord?  It seems like it falls out of the watch really easily.  I have to make sure it doesn't get bumped or moved at all to charge.

  • I have the same issue, not sure if it's the official cable or third party ones but the connection could be a little more secure.

  • Always found Garmin power connections a bit finicky....sometimes I've found that putting the cable in the other way around (connector rotated 180') helps.

Since I got Epix, I've started using one of those rubber bungs to try and keep any damp/gunk away from the connections, also bought a couple of L-shaped connectors that I can stick on the end of any old USB-C cable, which seems to sit a bit nicer. Not had any real issues yet.

  • I had similar issues before. At first, everything is fine. Later, charging sometimes doesn't work. You have to rotate the cable. Finally, the cable connection is VERY lose. Just breathing near the watch terminates the charging procedure.

I got a replacement cable and afterwards, no more issues.

So: Bad cable design or maybe bad cable material?

  • Yes same here. When I got my Epix2 Sapphire first couple of plug-ins it clicked nicely and it seemed secured in place. After couple of times it started to get loose and now I just bump the watch a little bit and it falls out. Pretty annoying if you ask me. I bought a charging cable from Aliexpress like this one:

and I must say it click is and holds way better than the one that came with my watch. Too bad Garmin doesn't produce a cable with this style cause I would buy it without a problem.

  • Same here, the fit is poor.

My previous 935 had excellent fit.

  • I've had the same problem with the cable popping off but just used a small pair of needle nose pliers and very slightly squeezed each side of the cable where the metal bits are showing - it brings the small keeper holes into line and the cable works perfectly. Did that for all the cables I'd bought thinking it was the cables but it is just a slight tweak and happy days! (I know this is an old post but adding here since it took me a while to find a solution for my watch)

I hope I understand your proposal correclly an will try to do so, too. Thank god my latest main garmin watch has a magnetic connector ;) Nevertheless, I'll report my experiences. Thx again + best regards, Uli

  • This thread started 2 years ago and Garmin continues to ship products Approach S62, EPIX Gen2 with same poorly designed charging connector. What a joke. Both of my Garmin devices are having the same failure, on both of their charging cables and the EPIX is only 4 months old!

Have ordered an Amazon docking unit to see if that addresses the problem but what a stupid product failure for this company.

  • Hey , I asked Garmin about the issue and got replacement cables since the watch was within the warranty period. I think this kind of "hurts" Garmin and maybe they will eventually change their cable design? I would recommend doing the same. I bought replacement units available on Amazon, too. For me, they typically fail after a few couple of connects/disconnects. I tried at least 3 different versions. Best regards, Uli

  • Agree UliHe42, Was able to charge my S62 and EPIX with the Chinese adapters. Will keep fingers crossed the $14 spent lasts a few months :-)
