Nylon Bands

I recently got a nylon band for my Epix 2 off Amazon- I love the functionality of it, but it stays wet for quite some time after showering and sometimes even through sweat. What are your experiences with the nylon bands and getting wet/drying off? I would assume people either don’t shower with it or maybe have a better drying idea.

  • Can you tell me a reason to shower with your watch?

  • It is true that the nylon band takes way longer to dry that the silicone one. I would revert to that one for humid/wet environments.

The only reason I bought the Nylon band myself was because it is more breathable and less prone to rash your skin, but I still switch to silicone bands to workout and never wear the watch while showering. Once a week I wash the nylon band with soap and leave it to dry hanging

  • It's a good opportunity to wash and rinse the watch/band.

  • I dry it with the towel. Thats fine.

  • And that is why I have 3 of them - they are cheap so it isn't an issue cost wise.

When wet (whether from show, wet sport activity or just to clean - rinse out the sweat), I swop it out for another band giving it a chance to dry. Normally I don't shower with my watch on, so generally only wash it once a week (which is way before they start to smell from sweat) - and as only takes under 30s to swop out it isn't overly onerous even when you have to make the change every day - like I recently did for a week due to a beach holiday (was in the water every day).

  • When I've used nylon bands in the past the holding of moisture has made them all stinky and gross in months.

Perhaps people who experience these issues might consider paying more attention to cleaning the bands. Smelly bands have also been reported from people using the supplied silicone bands too. The answer is to always rinse them under clean water after use and use soap or light detergent every week or so and allow the bands to dry off the wrist occasionally.

  • agree with @philipshambrook; and is why I have 3 nylon bands so I can swop them around while drying them out. I have also now had them for around 3 months and there has been no degradation to: band itself, its ability to stick, and or smell.

As a side note - if you don't wash the silicon one and your wrist, they will both smell over time too, maybe not as quickly as a nylon one but eventually they do due to body detriment etc.

  • I don't have an Epix, so apologies for gate crashing, but I do have a 6X Pro Solar with third party nylon hook/loop bands. I shower with the watch to rinse out the sweat, dry with a towel, usually on the wrist, sometimes off, and switch it to my other wrist for final drying so that my primary wrist gets a chance for some fresh air. I will also, sometimes, wear my HRM in the shower to give it a proper wash too, before hanging to drip dry.

I do have a second nylon strap, but I switch straps infrequently. It is certainly an option though.

What I would not do is to leave a sweat soaked strap just stewing on my wrist to dry naturally over the next several hours and then repeat again day after day. Yeuch!
