From Epix 2 to Enduro 2?

Has anyone thought of going from Epix 2 to the new Enduro 2?

I don't have experience on the MIP screen, so I was wondering is it that worse compared to the AMOLED of Epix 2?

The battery life provided by the Enduro 2 is just tempting.

  • This is exactly why I can't go back to a MIP screen. My Epix 2 has some BT issues which are extremely annoying but I still can't bring myself to using a MIP screen as my every day watch. I'd use the Enduro 2 for outdoor activities and the Epix 2 for everything else.

  • Thanks for the update.  Epix all the way.  And like you I’d give Garmin my money for an Epix 2X!

  • Great photos, thanks! How do you find the screen size of the Epix to use?

  • Here is AW7, Epix2 and Enduro 2 in Map view.

  • The Epix 2 screen is small and delicate, the Enduro 2 screen is large and bold, I personally prefer the big screen, easy to read, and vision friendly, Although the display is way awful compared to Epix's gorgeous AMOLED, I can live with that,

  • My Epix 2 is in my dresser drawer.  Went back to my AW7 and am happy I did.  No more sensor and bluetooth dropouts and no more having to carry my phone to reach someone.

The Epix 2 was a great step for Garmin, but they really need a truly connected watch that can send text or make a call.  They call these adventurers watches, but you have to take your phone if you want help.

For a lot of people, these watches are fine though.  They don't mind strapping on a phone.

And for a lot of people there’s no need to strap on a phone. For a lot of adventurous people there’s no cellphone coverage where they go anyway.

I'm one of those people.  I can't ever see myself not having my phone.  I do some pretty serious hiking in Colorado and my phone is always with me in a small day pack with other EDC items.  I'm not a marathoner and I don't surf.  When I mountain bike my phone is strapped to my handlebars.  I do exercise regularly and my phone is with me.  I'm one that doesn't want to make calls or text people on my watch.  And usually when I'm on an 'adventure' I don't call or text anyways - I carry my phone as a 'just in case'.

My son justified buying the LTE version of the AW (and paying the carrier $10/month) with the same argument of "Hey, I don't always want to carry my phone".  The only time I can remember him not having his phone is when he cuts the grass.  He actually forgot his phone once (when we all went out) and insisted on returning home to get it.

Not saying your reasons aren't valid - I'm sure they are very valid to you.  I guess I just haven't made the (in my mind) giant leap to leaving my phone behind.  I would rather leave my wallet behind Grinning

  • I would rather leave my wallet behind

I unfortunately tend to do that quite a lot, by accident, these days.... fortunately not an issue with watch/phone am still covered. But am just waiting for one of those days when the NFC machines aren't working and I have forgotten my wallet.

  • Thanks for this- here is another take on the Epix 2 vs Enduro 2.

    My only gripe with the Epix 2 was that I had to charge the Epix 2 daily during my recent hiking trip in Wales (used it with mapping all day long and only charged it to about 40% afterwards);

I was tempted by the flashlight, longer lasting battery and the bigger screen for mapping purposes and ordered the Enduro. After a day with it, I requested to return it.

The size was fine (former X user here) and the weight was excellent too. Loved the brightness of the flashlight at night. The display, however, was just unusable to me. It was too reflective to read even backlight enabled during the day. Mapping looked more usable but the colours and resolution have both taken a big hit versus the Epix 2.

All in all, I will be sticking with my current watch (with a cellular AW Series 6 on my other wrist for safety and streaming) until Garmin does the smart thing and finally releases a bigger-screened version. Garmin kinda ruined all of their other watches for me..
