How to disable auto Sleep Mode (including its schedule) and only use manual Sleep Mode?

Hello,

I have just replaced Fenix 7S with Epix 2 and would like not to have automatic Sleep Mode, but to enter Sleep Mode manually only.

I have irregular work shifts with no pattern, so no "automatic" here is suitable for me.

How can this be done?

Thanks for any tips

  • Same here Garmin!
My shifts never can't be covered with any type of schedule, please introduce ability to track a sleep manually!

  • Same here. My shifts are different. Turn off the Garmin schedule would be great for me also. Hope they fix this.

  • Just got my New Epix pro today and also my nightshifts starts, already really annoyed about this...

  • I have set my sleep schedule for every day from 0:30 till 10:00. I normally go to bed before 0:00 and get out of bed between 8:00 and 9:00. With a shortcut I set my epix pro gen2 to start and end 'Sleep mode' so I have a dimmed green watch face and undisturbed mode, the recognition of the real sleep is done automatic and independent from my settings ....

  • I know this is an old post, but I am in exactly the same situation and wholly agree with this for exactly the same reasons.  Found this in a search for how to disable sleep mode.  They really ought to separate out the sleep tracking from the display settings so they can be dealt with independently if they’re not going to allow us to manually disable sleep mode — and to be clear, that’s exactly what’s occurring here.  If you disable it and it reenables itself like a minute later, that is completely useless.

  • I also have the problem with the watch detecting way too long sleeping times. I recently started working night shifts and have set my daily sleep schedule from 2pm to 10pm. I'm still kind of adjusting and don't get more than about 3-4 hours of sleep on some days, and for some strange reason my Epix 2 very frequently detects these short sleep periods as if I have slept over 25 hours, which is ridiculous. I just installed 17.12 beta software, hoping it would have rid me of the problem. Of course it didn't, as it again recorded my day off sleep from 04:30pm to 00:30am as over 27 hours (pretty much 20 hours more than I actually slept) and erasing the sleeping data from last sleep session which was accurate. I'm now trying the 1-minute sleeping window in order to just activate it manually when necessary, but judging from the posts of other I'm not expecting much in terms of improvement.

Really disappointed that such an obviously bugged feature has still not been fixed, as it has apparently been known for a good amount of time. Especially for such an expensive watch. I feel like fixing such a clearly erroneous sleep time shouldn't be very difficult. The least they could do is just tell the user that for some reason the sleep couldn't be properly recorded and leave data for that day blank, not touching the sleep record data from the last day.

Since you now are part of the Beta program do write a bug for it in the Beta public Report for 17.xx https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/fenix-7-series/public-beta-reports/i/public-beta-17-xx

Generally I do not think that the Garmin engineers have had the shift workers in mind when they designed this sleep and nap tracking. They should had but most people work day time and has a regular/fixed sleep schedule and thus it probably works good enough for most of the buyers.

  • Yes, they definitely should. A pretty good amount of people are working nights or otherwise irregular hours. Engineering the sleep detection algorithm simply on the basis that "most people" live by certain daily rhythm is just stupid and in a sense very arrogant too. I don't know if they actually did this though, I'm willing to believe it's just a bug or an oversight that can be resolved with some adjusting. I mean, what even is the point of giving the ability to set your own custom sleep schedule if the watch is just going to assume that you sleep like "most people" do?

  • Makes just as much sense as allowing people to disable sleep mode and the watch immediately reenabling it one minute later.  If we can’t ACTUALLY disable it, don’t even put the option in there because it’s pointless.  Same with the sleep schedule.  If they want to just force everyone to only sleep during the hours THEY deem us to sleep, why let us enter a schedule at all?  Makes no sense.

Hope they at least get that fixed for those that have different shifts.

  • I start a short breathwork exercise, turn it off after 1 min for example and it takes it out of sleep mode and shows the morning report right after. :) Sleep is still recorded properly. I woke up early today for a flight and my watch stayed in sleep mode, did a breathwork, it turned it off directly. Showed me report.
