Buttons

Hi all! Just wanting to see how everyone’s buttons are doing. There was some earlier noise around this but it seems to have settled. Four of my buttons are great, and one (start/stop) sometimes acts as the others, but more often feels stuck down with no click. Anyone else still having issues with their buttons?

  • Ach, sorry to hear you're getting this response from them. It's not normal for the buttons to be different, some mushy and some with a click. I had my watch replaced, and all buttons are great. There's a distinct difference between the buttons on this watch, and the bad buttons on the old watch. Surely they can't be suggesting some watches are designed to have mushy buttons and others are designed to have a distinct click. I hope you find resolution.

  • how long have you had your replacement for?

Have you already done a few swims with it?

i think mine started to show mushy buttons (but still clicking so far) once I took it into the pool frequently

  • The replacement is very new... less than a week. But my original one had bad buttons from the start and I kept hoping they'd get better, the way some people in the forum were told they'd loosen up. And they didn't improve at all. The replacement has great buttons, all of them, and I'm not expecting this to change. Had similar issues with a 945 in the past. The bad-from-the-start buttons stayed bad, the good ones stayed good.

I don't swim, haven't taken my watch into water, so I can't speak to your correlation, but still... it's meant to go in water, so even if that's why yours started to get mushy, it still seems like the watch isn't working as intended.

  • Yeah, I'm not sure why they refuse to replace mine, I bought it as soon as they were available so it's highly likely to be first batch where they may have had issues with manufacturing. I don't swim in mine etc, just running, bouldering/climbing and hiking mainly.

It's not great as I have no confidence when using the buttons with no feedback. Out running and having to look at the watch while pressing the buttons to see which screen I'm on is a bit annoying. Much better when there is a proper click so I know to click x times to get to a specific screen etc without looking.

First world problems I know but it wasn't cheap and I expect a certain level of quality and finish but Garmin seem to think otherwise.

It is my favourite piece of tech still. Grin

  • I had these concerns when purchasing my first epix2 and returned it for a replacement. The same feel of the buttons (mushy) with the replacement watch I got. After months of use now the buttons feel all the same (clicky) with nice feedback.

  • Back button of my watch works weirdly. When pushing, it click once but when releasing, it has two steps/clicks like it stucks in the middle and the releases. Has anybody else noticed similar behavior?

  • Light and start do the same on mine.

I'm quite sure the start one started doing it back in July, but so far it didn't get any worse. so hopefully it will not break.

  • i just got my watch and day one the back/lap button is not functioning at all. Really annoyed. Anyone had a similar issue?

  • My down button stopped working after three months. Contact Garmin Support. Your watch might've to be replaced.
