I get the same notification, usually Google calendar, repeatedly, to the point of irritation. The watch seemingly can’t clear them.
I think nothing can be done but I wanted to ask.

Huh. A workaround would be to disable notifications for those apps. I'm assuming you're on Android?
Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone.
Select 
(top left).
Select Settings.
Select Notifications.
Select App Notifications.
From here, toggle to enable or disable all smart notifications or customize by selecting individual apps.
