Scratch/crack on the inside of screen - unsatisfactory support from Garmin Australia

Hi all - reaching out to see if anybody else has had the same experience with their Epix2 or, for that matter, another Garmin device.

Long story short, bought the Epix 2 Sapphire Titanium in March of this year and used it for a month or so. One day the light caught the screen and I thought there was a long piece of dust or a hair on the screen - turns out there's a mark that goes across a quarter of the screen that looks like a scratch. Effectively from the 9pm to the 12pm markers. Upon further inspection one cannot feel any indentation or scratching on the surface - the only thing I can think is that either it's formed a crack on the inside or there was a QC issue with a scratch on the underside to begin with and I hadn't noticed it.

Garmin Australia escalated it and will only offer me a 'discounted' replacement for $289. I feel a bit miffed at this as it's a sapphire screen (I had a Fenix 3, 5 and 6 and none ever scratched) and as best as I can tell, not a scratch on the outside.

Thoughts? Happen to anyone else??

  • Others can speak with more authority, but I believe that it was found that this is typically a scratch in a coating on the surface and not on the sapphire itself.  If you search under the Fenix 6 topic and others, you can see the results where people have just polished off the coating (may void warranty).

  • I just posted with exact similar problem with garmin UK. I honestly think it is a fault from factory and they are not willing to admit/honor it. I have the fenix 5s never an issue. I am waiting to hear back from them as not willing to have a watch for years with a crack on the INSIDE!!!
