Epix2 Disconnecting and Reconnecting to Bluetooth often

(Seems another thread on this very subject is now locked - so opening a new one)

A couple of days ago I was forced to return my Epix 2. Undoubtably, it is an excellent watch. Unfortunatly, it continuously disconnects/reconnects to Bluetooth.

I already own a FR935 and Venu watches, and using the very same phone, I've *never* had a Bluetooth issue. The issue remained even after updating to the latest SW version (Garmin Connection on the phone is obviously always up to date.)

I am considering a new watch, maybe the new FR955 or Venu 2 Plus - however, browsing the forum it would seems as if they both have (sporadic) Bluetooth issues (HW problems?)

Any suggestions here? Should I wait for the kinks to be resolved on these new watches?

Thanks!

  • iPhone or Android?

If on android I assume you have whitelisted the connect app?

personally I have no issues with bluetooth connection/disconnection with Epix and One Plus 7 Pro (Android). The only time I ever get a disconnection is when I walk out of range of my phone - the notification is prompt, and when walking back in range the re-connection is prompt.

Having owned a variety of different smartwatches this is the by far the best I have ever come across.

  • Android. Been using Garmin watches for 4 years now without any issue, same phone (fully updated...)

I am sure lots of people have no issue - but my experience was different. The Epix frequently disconnected, only to immediately re-connect, even when in close proximity to the phone. The range was also limited compared to my other watches: moving away a few meters resulted in disconnect, whereas my Venu did not.

Will be watching the forums for more info/updates. Right now, my impression is this is an issue with both Epix and Venu 2 Plus...

    Thanks!

  • I am having a similar issue. The watch would randomly go into a cycle of disconnecting and reconnecting with my phone. I can't seem to isolate any specific reason that triggers it nor can I identify which of the 5 things I do restores the connection. When it happens I start with restarting the app, rebooting the watch, then the phone, reinstalling the app, deleting then reconnecting the Bluetooth.... at some point the connection is restored and it's good for a bit.

  • I've had a similar problem, I didn't have the issue with venu 2 but I am having the issue with the Epix 2.

I thought (and still think it might be) a Pixel 6 issue but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a Epix issue.

What I've done is cycle bluetooth on the phone, it usually works.  Even with this, the HR data is still lost overnight.

Do you have battery saver enabled overnight? If so edit it so that WHR is set to Don’t Change.

  • Just go and disable this annoying message. Or did you notice some other problems?

  • No, I do not use battery saver (checked it to be sure)

  • I am using an android phone. My epix 2 is new this week and is doing this. Again even when the phone is in my pocket. It's really annoying and none of the Garmin advice is fixing it.

  • I'm not sure what kind of phone you have but as per my answer in this other thread, the answer for me when it happens on my Android device is to turn Airplane Mode on, wait 5 or 10 seconds and then turn Airplane Mode off again. With that done, the Epix 2 seems to reconnect.

  • Does your constantly cycle connecting and disconnecting? It will do this all day of its own accord. I've turned the notification off now, so at least the vibration alert isn't happening now.

I will try what you suggest. I have contacted Garmin to see what they say. Their help video didn't fix it either.  All my other Bluetooth connected items work as they should.  Only my watch does this.
