Dual watch face

It would be great if you could define two separate watch faces for the "always on" mode:

The first would be displayed in the darker standby, when the backlight is currently not activated by the gesture.

The second watch face would be activated by the gesture recongition.

So for example only the simple clock hands in very dark grey when inactive (battery saving and simple). And the one with all datafields when activated through gesture.

What do you think of the idea?

  • I think you didn't understand my proposal.

It's about two watch faces where one of them is automatically activated when in standby-Mode and the other one gets automatically activited when the gesture turns on the backlight.

  • Isn't that how the actual AOD works? The standby watchface is darker and has less details while the activated(by gesture/button/whatever) one is more detailed and bright.

If you want only the simple clock for AOD, you just need to find a watchface that has only the clock in AOD mode.

  • no, In the AOD mode you always have exactly the same watchface that gets darker or brighter. The amount of details or the looks don't change, just the brightness.

That is not what I proposed. Is it realy so hard to understand what I wrote?

  • That's absolutely not true. You can develop any change for a watchface depending on AOD or "active" state.

My watchface for example only shows a simple form of the high power mode. You even have to do that, because you're only allowed to illuminate 10 percent of the pixels at a time in AOD.

The transition is triggered by onEnterSleep() and onShow(). What you do with those functions is completely up to you (or the dev)

  • Absolutely agree with @BobMiles and @MaiadenT - It is just how Garmin work their own stock faces - they can't be bothered to provide a different ambient view from the awake face, so they just dim it and have less regular updated data.

But Bob is absolutely correct, if you make your own watch face then you can change the look of the ambient to awake watch face, and or get a 3rd party watch faces that already does this, but he is absolutely correct.

  • I see - I may be wrong here.

Thx to all of you for helping - I a going to look into this watchfacebuilder.

  • Don't pay attention to the digital hours as I'm with an alpha software and the watchface is bugged for a reason.

Anyway, as you can see the amount of details is different...overall the layout is the same but with more or less details between AOD mode and awaken state.

Some watchfaces changes a lot more and they are full of stuff in awaken state and only the basic stuff in AOD mode but you need to search for them and, as they are from 3rd party, you can expect a bit more bugs from time to time...especially when new firmwares get released.

Many of them get updated and fixed immediately so don't worry to go with a 3rd party watchface but i just wanted to let you know about possible issues.

I never tried to build my own watchface but it's definitely a good idea if you want to try.
