Music files in WAV format not working (EPIX 2)

Hi,

Just received my new Epix 2 last week and all seems to be working fine, except for the Music player. I transfer a few music files in WAV format, using Garmin Express, from my PC to the Epix, but then the musics do not show up in the Epix. I tried this a few times, with the same end result.

Any help would be appreciated.

You're correct. It should be supported. I tested a .wav file and was able to sync it to my watch and play it. So, I was unable to replicate your issue.

If you want playlists, you use iTunes. I tunes doesn’t support wav files, so when you transfer you iTunes playlists and you used wav files, you will hear nothing. So, I always have to convert my mixes from wav files to mp3, then create my iTunes playlists with them, then copy them over in express.

WAV is a container format, it may contain sound/music compressed with different codecs

It seems that Garmin supports WAV files only in uncompressed format, 44khz, 16bit, make sure files meet the requirements:

.wav Lossless, uncompressed, broadcast CD quality music files

Any reason you're using WAV? WAV files are massive; you may have a much smoother experience with other compressed codecs such as MP3 or AAC which could also potentially give you better sound quality if that's your driver for using WAV.

The reason I wanted WAV files is because of being a lossless format. Basically, I download my music from Tidal (I have an HiFi Plus subscription, so I have access to lossless FLAC files - unfortunately Garmin does not support FLAC just yet!), then convert it with "VSDC Free Audio Converter" to WAV (Normal Quality: PCM - 44100 Hz, Stereo), which should be the ".wav Lossless, uncompressed, broadcast CD quality" referred by Garmin...

By the way, I did this same procedure but converting to MP3, and all worked well. But I am no longer used/tolerant to this compromised sound quality of compromised MP3s...

I am not using playlist, simply a list of music files that I already have selected as favorites... But even copying the individual music files in WAV, I got this problem...

Even if you do get the Epix to play your lossless WAVs, could still end up with lossy audio anyway if the Epix is unable to process (i.e. play) the raw data fast enough as it will end up dropping the playback rate to what it can support, effectively reducing the sampling rate. This might not be the case if the Epix is fast enough, but it may be worth doing a comparison between lossless and WAV to see if there is a perceivable difference, even if lossless is normally your thing.

I'm not having a problem with wav files. Works fine for me using a Windows 11 computer, the built-in media player to create the playlist and Garmin Express to send the playlists to the epix.
