Workout pace alerts don't work as expected?

Hello friends!

I moved from a Fenix 5 to an Epix 2 a month or so ago and love it, but one thing I've noticed is that workout alerts don't work as they used to. If I set up a workout segment to do 5:00s at between 6:45 and 7:05 I would expect this to use the total average pace of that 5:00 and alert me if the whole thing goes under or over my goal. However, I'm fairly sure that it only alerts on my current pace which with the inaccuracy of GPS can be all over the place. Am I understanding this correctly and is there anyway to get it back to the old way?

  • You are correct, the alerts are now indicating whether the current pace is higher or lower than the target average pace of the workout step. This is a change when compared with older watches, apparently based on customer feedback.

I personally like the change a lot because it makes it easier to adjust the effort during short intervals. For longer intervals, I rely on the new real-time stamina and the pace pro targets to make sure that I am still OK with overall goals.

It is true that the current pace can suffer from GPS reception issues and lag a bit (I run typically in an urban environment), but it is typically a short-lived issue. Were it not, then the average pace would be off anyway also.
