Epix Gen 2 – no sleep tracking

I've seen a few posts about this, but the fixes don't seem to apply to me. Most say the issue is with the Batter Saver.

My Battery Saver is OFF
Wrist Heart Rate monitor os AUTO

I am getting WRH data through the day, as well as all other expected stats. But every morning, no sleep data recorded.

Been through the manual and all indications are it should be happening of its own accord

Lastly, any advice offered, please use words and basic instructions. This is my first smart watch, so there's a lot about what it can do that I just don't know or understand.

  • On your phone, when you go to the Epix 2 settings > System > About

What version of the software do you have?

  • What was the resolution? I just bought my Epix 2 and I'm having the exact same issue! All metrics are tracked 24/7, but no sleep score! My settings are all set correctly. I spoke with Garmin suppor and they have no clue! Thinking

  • There was a "second" setting, buried in the system preferences, that also needed to be activated. But I'm hard pressed to recall exaclty what it was. It just took me taking the time to scroll through every branch of the system settings tree and check that everything was what I wanted it to be.

I doubt this is super helpful, but I can't remember what I did to say "do this," other than to patiently wander down every alley in the set up of the thing and try all the switches.

I will say that, at 53 and very much not a tech-savvy individual, if i can stumble my way to an answer I'm sure you can too.

  • Thank you! I appreciate the response!

  • is it tracking your sleep - but you just aren't getting a sleep score. If you go onto the watch's sleep widget are you getting data there - if so does it include sleep score? IF watch is showing this detail its possible its a watch issue but in my experiene this is more a server side issue around syncing and the app. Raise a ticket and hopefully they will fix (usually after a couple of days the issue resolves it self - you can try a wifi sync - that sometimes fixes the issue).

If not data is on the watch's sleep widget i.e. the watch hasn't tracked sleep:

Was your sleep session longer than 3.5hrs? 2) was it during the time you set for your sleep profile? 3) when you check the HR widget for that period is there a HR recorded during the sleep period?

    1) if less than 35 to 3hrs then it doesn't get recorded as sleep - I suspect due to the way normal sleep cycles stages work it would mean a really lopsided result so to not mess with your overall metrics (considering how integrated sleep is into other metrics) the purposely ignore.

    2) If not sleeping during sleep schedule its possible that watch may not recognize as sleep if you are too restless, HR doesn't drop enough and or your stress is too high. You can check to see what HR was during that period and can check stress during that period - which may give some indication if you don't see significant drops in either.

    3) If no HR was recorded during that period check you sleep settings - is Battery saver truned on? if so check battery saver settings - as standard it truns off HR (which means no sleep tracking) - you need to edit the battery saver settings so that HR is turned on. Or alternatively you can set sleep profile to not trigger battery saver and just use DND instead - but I personally prefer shutting off all connectivity for when I sleep.
