No Watch lock possible?

Coming from an Apple watch, I was wondering if there is no funtion to code-lock your device? In case I loose the Epix or it gets stolen, everyone will have access to my stored data, right? Or can this be done remotely via Garmin Connect in such case?

  • There is a code for the wallet but not for the watch, as far as i know.

The watch is just collecting data but there's no personal information, unprotected, on it. Your personal details are only on the app.

  • If you take my watch with over 200 activities, you will most likely find out:

where I live, where I work, wich Klndergartens by childrens are visiting, when I’m out running or working, how tall I am, how heavy I am, what and when I’m out volunteering.

I think, that is a lot of personal data.

  • If i call my workout "my card number is xxxxxxxxxxxxx" you can find also the number of my credit card, probably.

Jokes aside...where can i find the weight and height on the watch?

  • User profile settings. Menu - User profile which gives: Fitness age, gender, birthdate, height, weight, wrist, HR (zones details), Power zones, Critical Swim speed.

Its a difficult one, as while I agree its possible to get all this data, I really really do not want to have to enter a code each time I take off a watch and put it back on, which happens at least once a day (swop wrists for sleep).

  • Oh right...missed that one as i set everything on the app most of the time.

I still don't consider them too much personal as they are just numbers without any link to a real person. They could remove the birthday or keep just the year maybe?

If they ever add a code to lock it i definitely hope that we will be able to choose to use it or not.

  • I just wanted to make clear that there is a lot of personal information on our watches. I think, the biometric data isn’t as interesting as the activity (location and time) files if you want to learn something about somebody. That’s the reason the Tactix has the „kill switch“ and that’s also the reason Military bases where uncovered because of sports heatmaps.

An (optional) Code would only help if it also protects the file system.

  • I'm wondering too, that there's no protection of the whole watch.(I'm former owner of an an Apple Watch as well). And I'm wondering why this is not a bigger issue of discussion.

Are customers so unconcerned about their own data protection or are they simply not thinking about the potential problem? Why doesn't Garmin address the obvious privacy issue? I actually no longer use the watch for what I bought it for for this reason. Means turning off most of the functions unfortunately

  • What do you want to protect? There is no personal data (except workout data). Garmin Pay is protected by a code. It’s not a smartwatch as an AppleWatch.

  • It is possible to extract the following data without a smartphone and without the Connect app:

    User Profile Data:

    - Date of Birth
    - Gender
    - Height
    - Weight
    - Max HR, performance settings

    Navigation Data:

    - Stored geo-favorites
    - Activities including where (with geoinformation) and when (with time)

    Last Activities:

    - A retrospective of all recent activities including performance data

    Health Data:

    - Average heart rate over an entire week
    - Steps including total count over an entire week
    - Sleep behavior over an entire week
    - Health snapshots

    Now exposed are:

    1. Daily routines and movement patterns
    2. Identification of sensitive locations
    3. Personal health data and performance profiles

As a result, there is now knowledge of my home address, my name, and my workplace. Predictions about future movements are possible.

The combination of movement and user data, when intelligently analyzed, can lead to a very detailed profile of your daily habits. This can compromise both privacy and security, as an attacker or finder of the watch could potentially infer personal information such as home address, workplace, fitness level, and daily routines.

  • As a result, there is now knowledge of my
    my name

Where can I find it on the device?
