Epix 2 - Cannot connect headphones and HRM-PRO simulteneously...

As above, my Aftershox Aeropex headphones and my HRM-PRO will each connect to my EPIX2 flawlessly on their own, but not together.  The instant I switch off my headphones, my HRM connects.  The instant I connect my headphones, my HRM disconnects.  I cannot listen to music and monitor HR at the same time.

Everything is charged up and on the latest software (using a Samsung A71 which is itself on the latest software).  This problem also exists for me using various combinations of the above kit and Apple Airpods and a HRM-RUN 1st Gen.

I have searched this forum and I've seen the glitchy connections problem, but nothing quite like mine.  It's not glitchy, it's binary, it's on/off, black/white, headphones/HRM.

Am I the only one with this one?

  • Just guessing here, but maybe the HRM is paired with bluetooth? Use ANT instead…

  • I am sorry there is an issue. Please update your Epix 2 to the new v8.18 software when it becomes available and test further. The release is currently at 50% but will be at 100% soon.

If you continue to have the issue, reset your watch through your System > Reset menu and test again. At the moment, there are no other reports worldwide that match your own. I am hoping your issue will resolve for you either with the software update or through the reset step.

  • Normally it should be no problem for the device to handle this. But I would test: set the HRM pro to ant+ (as already suggested) and have a look, if the prob still occurs.

Will try your setting (both set to bt) this afternoon when I am back from office (but I am already on 8.18 and I use Aftershox OpenMove).

  • I've reported this (on fenix 7s)! Other folk have reported this! I've already had my fenix 7s swapped once for it, but still experience the same behaviour. In my case it's Galaxy Buds 1st gen, and HRM RUN.

The behaviour seems to have changed slightly over the software releases but same end result: Try to play audio and my ANT+ sensors (HRM RUN and/or Tempe) get disconnected after some seconds. Stop playing music and I see the sensors reconnect! The newer 8.xx releases also now have a symptom whereby, sometimes, all devices can remain connected, but the audio stops, however I can see the music playing and ticking forward in the player. I've seem at least one other report of this latter behaviour in these forums also.

  • I have HRM Pro and Powerbeats Pro wireless and jog 5-10km almost daily without issues with both connected and listening to music. This has been on the various 8.xx beta firmwares (and possibly the latest 7.xx firmware but I can't recall for certain). Doesn't necessarily help your situation other than to say with different headphones and the HRM Pro I have not had this issue.

  • I am sorry, your specific issue skipped my memory when I first responded to you yesterday.

If after you have updated to v8.18 software and your issue continues, for an issue that is specifically all sensors disconnecting at the same time while recording an activity, your watch will need to be added to an existing tracking case and then it will be warranty replaced. Please reach out to your regional Outdoor Product Support to initiate the process.

  • If you haven't already, please try different Bluetooth headphones. Those I have personally interacted with have not continued to have an all sensor disconnection issue after exchanging their watch. Your cause is highly likely a software conflict issue between your watch and your first gen Galaxy Bud's software.
