Honeymoon Over (rubbing, blisters)

Had the Epix 2 since day one and will say it’s the first Garmin watch I’ve really liked (and I’ve owned many of them). However, a few long runs recently and the underside of the watch is rubbing my wrist to the point of blisters and bleeding. Major bummer. I’m wondering if anyone knows of a DYI method of shielding the watch from your wrist. Also, I don’t need the sensors as I always wear an Hr strap. Thanks.

  • If that's from rubbing then perhaps the watch is not being worn tight enough. Otherwise, wearing the watch over a wristband would work.

  • Probably too tight. I had the same problem, minus the blisters. My first solution was to change wrists a couple days a week. Now I take it off whenever I bath/shower, and that seems to give my skin enough of a break to prevent injury.

  • Do you wear it 24/7? Then move it to your other arm during nights...

  • have you also considered changing to a nylon strap. If you discuss with Garmin they may even send one over free.

Its not like it takes a long time to change, and if you have a couple you can swop over while a sweaty smelly one is washed and dried (the important part).

  • Thx for the thoughtful responses. On a scale of tightness, I probably wear it on the tighter end. I use one of the heathered nylon straps and I don’t wear it 24/7. I’m going to switch to the other arm (which feels really, really weird) and see what happens. Otherwise, I might try to put a round furniture pad on the underside of the watch. Thx again!

  • Another possible reason is compound skin irritation caused by accumulation of sweat. I noticed that if my hand gets even slightly sweaty, after a few hours I start to feel irritation under the watch. I do the following and then I do not have irritation:

    - outside of workouts I loosen the strap

    - if I get any sweat under the watch I wipe it clean immediately

    - after each workout I wash the watch

  • We are sorry to hear about the issue you are reporting. The skin irritation may be a result of build-up on the watch band and/or casing. You should discontinue wearing your watch until your skin has healed.
