Map download and storage space

Just bought the epix 2 and the topo map for Europe and encountered the same problem as many others: although I had not installed any other files before, the map would not load, even when selecting just a region such as Central Europe, as it stated that there was not enough storage space (despite the file size information suggesting the opposite); I was about to return the watch because this is really terrible customer management and customer experience by Garmin, I tried what another user suggsted (but went beyond his suggestion) and deleated all map files I could find via explorer; now I have the entire Europe map on the watch and it seems to work (ie not only regions such as Central Europe)! Will let you know if the watch breaks down in the next few days...

  • I did exactly the sme thing and works so far. 16GB version. Deleting the files has been a pain on Mac OS, instlles Germin MapManager, Bootca,p etc nothing worked. Only on a windows laptop could finally manually delete the map files. Garmin Connect them loaded the entires EU map. Spent a day on this, very frustrating.

  • Deleting the files has been a pain on Mac OS

Have you installed Android File Transfer? You need this to access the file structure on all Garmin watches with music.

  • No, to be honest frustration level was high and took my wifes business laptop with windows.

  • OMG just coming across this issue - are you seriously saying I need to manually delete files through explorer. I only went with the 16GB version as I understood I could download the EU map!

  • Sadly, yes, or you install only a part of EU map with a PC. If Garmin just allowed people to delete the Golf maps that a lot of people don't use, there would be no problems

  • It's tight with the Epix 16GB - have removed the golf maps manually now but looks like I have to install the whole of the 12GB Europe map as there's no option to install a part of it / a specific country. Thanks for responding.

  • Just an update on my entry 10 months ago: the watch and maps are running without problems now, I have been to western and southern Europe and had no issues; the set up and customer experience from Garmin though remains terrible about this

  • Yes, as I described 10 months ago when I bought the watch; works perfectly now, went to southern and western europe without problems; the customer experience on this from Garmin remains terrible though

  • How did you remove the golf maps manually? I'm looking at the epix 2 folders now with Windows explorer and can't find the data files.

  • Hi, the golf maps are saved in the folder garmin :
