Thanks for your answer
Do you have any explaination why ?
Quatix 7 and Epix gen 2 seems to be very similar.
Sailassist seems to be base only on GPS and clock.
Do you have any explaination why ?
It's because garmin designed it this way, most likely for product differentiation.
It's what I see ....
But when you paid around of 1000 € for a watch, you can expect to have some services, which of course are not limited by product differentiation.
Take a look at the Garmin IQ store, if there are some sail apps available for your device.
Hello Volker
Already installed.. hopfully.
I will also try to design mine... but I need some time.
On this thread https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/epix-2/292988/quatix-7-sapphire-vs-epix-2 Someone appears to have purchased and Quatix 7 Saphire and installed the Epix 2 beta firmware on it. If it works one way then I would be suprised if it wouldn't work the other way, i.e. get the latest beta Quatix 7 Saphire firmware and load it onto an Epix 2. I did a comparison of featurs on the Garmin website and the only listed differences are more bike functionality on the Epix 2 vs more boat/yacht based functionality on the Quatix 7.
I would be willing to download and install Quatix 7 Saphire on my Epix 2 and give it a try if I had access to the Beta Firmware.
Mayen that is the reason why quantix, Tactix and such do not have beta. To not allow ppl to use this software on the basic models. Hmm..
But you also have to see things from Garmin's view - they separate devices for specific user types and market segments/interests. It's not the cost of the product that defines what you can get out of it - it's the user intent (and THEN comes the associated cost based on how complex, how much features, etc are in the watch). Being that Quatix is intended for sailing and boating types, there will be specific functions on it that you can't get on other devices. Similarly, for Tactix Delta and ballistics stuff, for example, you can't get the Garmin features for that watch, on other watches also.
Yes EPIX and Quatix seem similar and you might assume that because EPIX costs $1000 that you should be able to load up every possible Garmin feature ever made, onto the watch. But that's not how Garmin approaches their design and user intent areas.
So in fact, yes, function is absolutely limited by product differentiation in the Garmin ecosystem. Perhaps you should buy the Quatix and return the EPIX?

This is what every company does, from washing machines to cars. They take the same hardware and package it in a different package, adjust the software and sells it as a new model. Why would that be different in this case?
