IOS 15 notifications not working consistently

Notifications from my iPhone (iOS 15) to my Epix 2 work very intermittently. They work for about 1/2 a day, and then they stop. My watch, when I try to open the notifications glances, says I have to connect the watch to my phone and open the Garmin Connect app. Yet even if the phone is right next to me and the app is open, nothing works.

I have to manually turn the watch off and back on. Immediately upon the watch starting up again, the notifications immediately start working.

This happens regardless of whether during the day or night (it is not something that just happens in the morning after Focus sleep mode or sleep mode on the watch). I’ve gone through everything at https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=jusyWiwXtF4512Rb8jnLOA and found no issues. I do have Focus sleep mode set up on iOS, but this issue happens even in the middle of the day.

I feel like this might be something about the Garmin Connect app (which I never close) not connecting with the watch consistently. Even when notifications don’t work, the savings of workouts I do still works though.

Thoughts about what this could be? Or how to try to fix? Quite annoying.
