Epix 2 ruined most other Garmin watches for me

I ordered and received a Tactix 7 Pro this morning, thinking that it would be a longer lasting backup for my Epix Gen 2. As the former owner of a number of the previous Fenix models, I was also keen to see how I'd feel, had I gone for a Fenix, rather than the Epix.

The Tactix 7 is a lovely watch with excellent build quality. The nato strap is excellent too, along with the bezel and added features. However, I realised I just couldn't go back to the translective display type.

I suppose I got too spoiled and/or just can't go back. Anyone else with a similar experience? Even if things went the other way round back to a Fenix watch?

  • I’ve had an AW since launch in 2015 and a Garmin since 2011 and I’m constantly going back and forth between the two. I find the LTE, reminders, Apple Pay and timers really useful on the AW, but I also rely on the training and recovery metrics of the Fenix/Epix while marathon training which benefit from 24/7 use.

  • Unless I'm mistaken, anyplace that accepts ApplePay also accept GarminPay. And what kind of reminders/timers do you get on AW which are not able to be seen on Fenix/Epix as either a phone notification or a watch-based timer?

  • The problem is not who accepts what...the problem is the amount of banks that supports Garmin pay. If your bank doesn't support it you can't link the card to garmin and can't use garmin pay.
Unluckily, the list of banks that supports Garmin Pay is really short especially for older banks.
In Canada it's just few of them

In Italy there are more banks but only few that are well known nation-wide.

Same goes for Samsung Pay or Fitbit pay for example.

  • I'm the same!

How many f7 owners out are just kidding themselves when they say they love their f7 compared to their f6? It's like upgrading an iPhone, really exciting, then once everything has installed, you unlock it and it's exactly the same as the old one in a different case. They justify their f7 purchase by going on and on about how great the battery life is and how the Epix battery wouldn't be enough, but I guarantee you that probably 95+% of f7 owners will never need to huge battery life for Ultra running etc. 15-16 days or 30ish hours of gps on the Epix is plenty. I'm planning on doing a 50 mile Ultra over the summer, and I know my Epix battery will have more than enough juice in for that.

If the Epix hadn't come out, I'd have kept my f6x.

  • Garmin pay isn't much use unless you live in the US.

  • Not really. Pretty good support here in the UK, I am guessing that also goes for Europe too.

  • Couldn't agree more. One big missed opportunity for Garmin was to add a form of fast charging for the Epix 2 specifically. I find it a bit surprising that there seems to be no difference at all in charging speeds between Fenix and Epix.

  • Garmin pay works great in Sweden and has been working for quite a few years now

  • Not really - as most of Europe and other countries offer digital card services like Curve/Revolt where you just link your CC to them and hey presto off you go. Unfortunately Canada is an issue as very limited in terms of banks and no digital card services.

  • I'm so lucky Smiley but i want to give a try with Brim Financial which doesn't ask too much and doesn't have fees. Anyway, i should stay in Canada for just 5-6 months more and then will open an account with Revolut for Italy.

I don't know if it's my impression but the list of banks in Italy looks a lot bigger than 2 years ago...i'm pretty sure that some major banks were not there at that time...mine is still not on the list but i'm more optimistic now.
