Epix 2 ruined most other Garmin watches for me

I ordered and received a Tactix 7 Pro this morning, thinking that it would be a longer lasting backup for my Epix Gen 2. As the former owner of a number of the previous Fenix models, I was also keen to see how I'd feel, had I gone for a Fenix, rather than the Epix.

The Tactix 7 is a lovely watch with excellent build quality. The nato strap is excellent too, along with the bezel and added features. However, I realised I just couldn't go back to the translective display type.

I suppose I got too spoiled and/or just can't go back. Anyone else with a similar experience? Even if things went the other way round back to a Fenix watch?

  • Ya I had a Fenix6X and went to a Venu 2 because of size and absolutely loved the amoled display but I needed the maps as I do a ton of trail/mountain running in AZ so I went back to a 6s Pro because I liked the white/rose gold as it just had more character then most of the fenix line which is just a plain black.  Once the EPIX 2 came out I went best of both worlds and got the white titanium and love it.  I won’t be changing models again until the next version comes out which won’t be for at least 2-3 years and I am ok with that along with my wallet.  Lol.

  • Oh yea, same for me. I still have my fenix 6s as a backup and I hope I never have to need it.  I turned it on last night just to update it and the screen was so blah.  The screen on the epix is so bright and perfect and I don't think I had to compromise any battery life at all for it.

  • Before trying Garmin i had Mi band(various generations) and a Fitbit.

I didn't even know about MIP displays and when i decided to try a Garmin watch i went with the Vivoactive 4.
I didn't use it too much outside at that time because it was winter but in any case, i didn't like it at all...all the reviews were talking about always-on-display but, in my opinion, it's not an always-on-display if i can't see anything whenever there is low light.

Returned it back during the 30days window and got the Venu...while it was just a copy of the VA4 with an AMOLED screen and the GPS was not good as i was expecting from Garmin i still liked it.

Then, Venu 2 with a revamped UI, HR every second also on AOD, new sensors, and a lot better GPS than Venu...it was real love, but i wanted to try some advanced training metrics and Garmin decided to release the Epix...couldn't be happier with it.

It's the perfect watch for me...size, appearance, features, battery life everything(just missing that live HR on AOD from Venu 2).

  • Hell, I can't go back to my Apple Watch.   Though I miss not having to carry a phone.  The AW was basically my iPhone on my wrist.  But the display is better on this, and it's freakin' round.

  • The Epix2 and Fenix 7 should have had the LTE added. Been a repeat customer for sometime with the Fenix 3, 5, and 6. LTE has been in competitors wearable for sometime, as well as even with Garmin's Forerunner 945. In the larger, significantly more expensive, and more capable watches, Garmin left them out. I still went with purchasing the Epix2 because I wanted the additional features it had, but I'm really disappointed that for the price it does have the LTE technology for the additional safety when on bike rides and runs without my phone. I honestly purchased it thinking it had LTE just because it had been anticipated in all the forums and came out several months after the Forerunner 945LTE, and was supposed to be a more capable and was a significantly more expensive watch. Never had buyers remorse from Garmin before this purchase. I wouldn't put Garmin wearables below the Apple watch just yet, but it definitely made me consider switching.

  • Same. Had Fēnix 3, 5x, and 6x. Tried AW — poor battery life great display. Tried Venu2. Great display, fewer functions and felt too lightweight for me. My wife still wears her 5s. Now with Epix? I could never go back to that Fēnix screen. Can’t wait for EpixS for her!

  • I agree, AMOLED at last. But the nicest thing would be a watch where the buttons are not spongy and all bugs are finally fixed. What good are Garmin watches if after each update something else does not work and the list of open bugs is getting longer and longer?

Since my Fenix5 was my favorite, because the number of bugs was manageable and the GPS was not as bad as in the Fenix6.

EpixGen2 with large battery and without bugs would be my wish.

  • But the nicest thing would be a watch where the buttons are not spongy

Yeah, I miss the satisfying 'click' of my Fenix 6 buttons. They're still good after two years. Time will tell if the same holds for the Epix buttons.

  • The one reason I still have my Apple Watch is cellular. Nothing beats having autonomy from your mobile phone when exercising! With streaming to boot.

  • Same here, 3-6 and went to AW for a few months. The AW has some nice features but the EPIX albeit more expensive offers me more.
