Yes, they do not care because it was most likely designed in that way intentionally. Only at short GPS drop-outs, the speed and the distance are interpolated. At long signal dropouts it is not clear whether you took the straight line between the two points, or a complicated route, or even whether you stopped, or rode in circles, or took a subway, bus, etc. Hence it is safer to discard that section, than calculating an average that may be right in one case, and completely wrong in another one.

Get a speed sensor. You'll have the correct distance immediately and always. You'll save the time you are spending on the forum, and you'll spare your nerves too.

Problem solved. I would hardly have believed it. But it seems that the problem has been solved since the last alpha (or beta). After the 400m tunnels are opened and merged into something. Great.
