AOD not working with external HRM and watch not on hand?

AOD does not seems to work when doing activity with the watch off hand. This is extremely annoying when using it on bike trainer or stationary stations when you just want to place the watch by the side or the front.

Can we make the AOD function to be external HRM aware or add a function to have a true AOD for activities?

I think I found the issue, when the watch is charging, it seems to ignore AOD settings.

Maybe it’s the settings? I have AOD on for activities. When off my wrist and in my bike mount it dims enough yo see the data but doesn’t ever completely go dark.

have you updated to the latest firmware - as one of the earlier versions had this issue, but shouldn't be an issue on the latest firmware 7.35.

I think I found the issue, when the watch is charging, it seems to ignore AOD settings.

Garmin - Chris is this the correct behavior or a bug? Can we have a option for the screen to remain on during charging? Or at least follow the AOD configuration.

I know you've addressed this to Chris at Garmin specifically but why do you want it on when charging? It is the correct behaviour for the screen to go dark when on the charger. However, when in use during an activity on the bike for instance, it dims.

I'm guessing that in your original post you were not using it to actively record a cycling activity?

My trainer bike has a table with garmin charger on it, so during indoor training I can charge and use the device at the same time. I had been a fenix user for a long time previously so this hasn't been an issue for me until now.

There is a customer experience case requesting there be better options for when your Epix 2 is attached to an Indoor Trainer or mounted to a Bike. There are times when the AMOLED display will dim and be difficult to read.

The issue then is that the watch is not able to be used during an activity when connected to the charger. Correct?

I am fine with the screen dimming which is still readable, but whenever it is charging, it will override the AOD behavior and turn off the screen completely after a preset period.

I am not sure if charging will force the watch to use System instead of Activity power profile, and did not have a chance to try it yet. But for sure when the unit is charging during an activity, it ignores the activity power profile.

edit: it's weird, I try recreating the issue but it seems to still turn off regardless of charging or not. i am pretty sure during my last activity the screen stays on when not charging.

Hello,

AOD settings are not taken into account per activity through any power profile you can choose or create for this activity. The bug has been reported : so far, no commitment from Garmin about any target date for solving this very annoying issue.
